Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cognos Analytics

We use IBM Cognos Analytics suite for developing Analytics solutions and consuming visualization reports and dashboards to get incredible insights from the collected application data.
Our clients appreciate the intuitive look and feel of the reporting solutions generated using this suite. It is an ideal choice among various enterprise grade business intelligence solutions like QlikSense, Tableau, Informatica etc.
  • Handling enormous amounts of data for analytics development.
  • Highly responsive end to end solutions built leveraging the ever-reliable IBM cloud.
  • Efficient collaboration among team members and reduced dependency on isolated developers.
  • Could extend the integration capabilities for many third party platforms which are already being supported by its competitors for quite some time now.
  • Could be made a little more citizen developer friendly against its current approach of being more understandable by developers. One good example is Power BI which is highly usable even by non-developers who are proficient in using excel formulas, for a lot, if not all of the requirements.
  • Resource consumption needs to be optimized to handle loads even with lower specifications based platforms considering it has capability to run on browsers as well.
  • Automation of jobs for analytics demanding tasks like snapshot creation, dashboard refresh, automatic forecasting for selected KPIs, saved almost 50% of the time for developers and end users to configure and manually monitor the above mentioned KPIs.
  • Migrated from QlikSense reporting to IBM Cognos Analytics and found it to be comparatively more secure yet robust for all defined roles with default added protection layer with Single Sign On which has to be configured separately in QlikSense till now.
We are getting benefited continuously with the advanced Automation and AI capabilities on IBM Cognos Analytics which enable us to focus more on delivering the strategic business solutions rather than repetitive development tasks like data extraction, modelling (unless specific modelling is needed based on business case), data refresh, troubleshooting ideas, cognitive capabilities etc.
This platform has a lot of potential to compete head to head with Tableau and Microsoft Power BI upon addressing few of the previously mentioned and much needed enhancements.
Data security is a critical deal maker or deal breaker for us and IBM Cognos Analytics live to fullest of the expectations in this regard.
It offers tremendously helpful capabilities for row level and role level security on top of already powerful single sign on and multi factor authentication features.
Migration from QlikSense to IBM Cognos Analytics was done based on this very reason and it helped us to deliver the expected client values by fulfilling their expectations in terms of their security standards.
Reporting capabilities including multi-page report development are impressive on this platform.
Even for paginated reports or more rows per page of the same report, it works seamlessly, thanks to its quick resource allocation capabilities from the host system.
However, things can turn around nasty if the underlying infrastructure is of standard specifications. One has to be careful in choosing the capable infra for this reporting and analytics solution.
IBM Cognos Analytics can be placed moderately among the evergreen reporting solutions mentioned above (MS Power BI, Tableau, Qlik Sense) with both pros and cons in different categories over these tools.
In terms of security, it is as reliable as Power BI which is powered by native MS Azure based authentication.
In terms of intuitiveness and attractive visuals, it is as good as Tableau.
In terms of allocating and utilizing infra resources for backend processes, it is as good as Qlik Sense.
