Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cognos Analytics with Watson

Although I'm a beginner in this whole analytics cycle, Cognos made it really simple for me as an end-user. Using the dashboards, reports, and automated stories really made my job easier. I really felt like Cognos with Watson was guiding me in the right direction and it felt very user-friendly.

Pros

  • Data visualization.
  • Predictive analytics.
  • Automatically finding relationships.

Cons

  • The price is a little high from what I've gathered. It's not really an option if you're not at least a mid-sized organization.
  • Time saved, of course.
  • Dashboard and reports usage had gone up in our company.
  • We are now trying to integrate our ERP's database directly with Cognos.
They complete in each other in the analytics cycle. Not only can we get infused insight and descriptives and diagnotics from my data, I can actually plan when combining both software.
I am an end-user, so I don't really get to touch all of this. I get to make reports and publish them. I actually took pleasure in building reports and dashboards because of the very well-built interface. It also makes my co-workers more interested in the data when it's presented in some of these very nice-looking reports.

I'm an end-user and Cognos has really stepped ahead of what I expected from such software. I have no coding experience and very little data analytics experience, but I was able to easily build dashboards and reports for my organization. This is what I was looking for: a very friendly-user platform to make and share the results of my analysis.

Well suited: Trying to predict future sales. Trying to find hidden relationships in your data. It complements very well an IBM-oriented environment. Least suited: Non-IBM environment.
