Overall Satisfaction with Linode

I am using Linode to support a number of websites, services, and email across all groups in my organization.

The websites are provided through a running instance of Apache.

The services are provided through a number of different open-source packages (e.g., Dropbox, SonarQube, Confluence, Dovecot) and bespoke code, including MySQL, Python, PHP, Redis, and Java).

Any service needed by anyone in my organization can be hosted on the Linode system.
  • Flexibility--I can set up applications and manage them as I see fit.
  • Economy--the cost of running a Linode server with adequate resources is quite low.
  • Up time--the Linode servers and their networks rarely seem to be offline, which is important to my business.
  • Support--each time I have had an issue, usually of my own making, the Linode team has addressed it in a timely and professional manner.
  • To be honest, I have no suggestions for making Linode better though, as any consumer would agree, if it dropped in cost I would not fuss.
  • Quicker time to value.
  • Ease of updates (e.g., for new applications or security patches).
  • Simplicity of account management and billing.
Comparing Linode against other cloud hosting services, Linode is less expensive, less complex to administer, and provides a sufficient range of functionality for my business needs.
Linode support is quite adequate for my business needs, which do not require 24x7 manned response, as my technical staff can generally handle all hosted application support needs.
Linode has provided a stable, mature, relatively easy to manage cloud-hosted system to run the applications and services needed by my business at a cost point that is among the lowest available.
Uptime is key for my business, though rarely do very short outages become a critical issue for us.

Linode reliability has been superb, with very few outages of even short duration. Any issues are immediately reported to us by email even if Linode is not sure they affect us--that's excellent transparency.
Most appropriate: small to mid-size companies who need to run websites, email, and other services (e.g., Confluence or Jira) in a cost-effective manner, and on virtual servers with quite usable CPU, memory, and networking.

Less appropriate: use by companies who are unable or unwilling to have the technical staff necessary to manage the server (e.g., installing apps, setting up databases) and associated services. Using Linode mostly requires skills in working with Linux systems through a shell, although Linode provides some web-based tools to make this a bit easier.
