Overall Satisfaction with ScienceLogic
ScienceLogic is being used across our whole outsourcing division to monitor not only our company's network, security, and server infrastructure, but also that of all of our clients. ScienceLogic allowed us to implement a true multi-tenancy solution which allowed clients to view only information for their devices. ScienceLogic also provides power packs that allow us to rapidly implement monitoring for highly virtualized environments such as Nutanix.
- ScienceLogic handles multi-tenancy much more easily than most of its competitors. This is extremely important for any service provider or outsourcing company.
- Power Packs are available for most technologies. This allows you to stand up full monitoring for pretty much everything on your network, allowing you to gather all of the information you need quickly, without having to do a ton of research.
- Standard reporting is available out of the box that lets you create scheduled jobs that email results to all interested parties. This makes Monthly Operational Reviews with clients much easier.
- Integration with ServiceNow is a huge bonus. This allows us to easily cut tickets on critical events and ensure they are sent to the correct teams for resolution.
- ScienceLogic's support is the area where they have the biggest opportunity for improvement. Tickets take way too long to be addressed and resolved.
- It can be difficult to create reports that go beyond the basic canned reports.
- There is a bug that allows the system to record interface utilization beyond 100%; this makes the utilization graphs useless, as the scale is blown out of proportion and detail is lost.
- ScienceLogic has enabled us to offer a new service to our clients—Monitoring as a Service. This has added an additional revenue stream.
- ScienceLogic replaced open source monitoring tools which required specialized knowledge to administer. ScienceLogic allowed us to reduce the amount of time spent administering the monitoring solution.
Yes - ScienceLogic replaced Nagios and Cacti. The open source monitoring tools required quite a bit of knowledge to administer. ScienceLogic is much simpler to administer, allowing our engineers to discover and add monitoring to new devices without having to tax the resources of a dedicated resource.
When we implemented ScienceLogic, we were able to replace multiple instances of Nagios with one single pane of glass. This made it much easier to monitor all of our environments at the same time. It also allowed us to monitor virtual components, like Nutanix, and cloud elements, like AWS.
Since implementing ScienceLogic, we have been able to add a new product offering to our managed services portfolio—Monitoring as a Service. This offering allows us to offer services to clients looking for assistance with monitoring their IT environments, but who do not require our management services.
We have integrated ScienceLogic with our ServiceNow implementation. This integration allows us to automatically handle ticket creation and notification. The workflows are flexible enough to allow us to tailor events to individual client requirements. This work was previously done manually and required a great deal of institutional knowledge on the part of our operations staff. Now, everything is done automatically and correctly.
- We have been able to integrate events with PagerDuty. This allowed us to make notifications to an on-call engineer based on the device category. The end result was the on-call engineer for each team only receives notifications for devices he or she supports. Previously one engineer would receive all notification, and then have to reach out to the appropriate subject matter expert.
CA Unified Infrastructure Management is a much more complicated product than ScienceLogic. It requires a dedicated tools team to maintain and administer it. Most implementations of ScienceLogic would only require one or two really knowledgeable people. UIM is more easily able to scale to much larger implementations than ScienceLogic.
Nagios can perform most of the monitoring that ScienceLogic can, but lacks the ease of integration, events, Power Pack availability. In short, it is much more difficult to administer. When something does not go as expected, you have to rely on crowd-sourced support, rather than a dedicated account team and a support desk.
