Overall Satisfaction with Semrush
We manage several sites for nonprofit organizations. We use SEMrush primarily for blog content topics to increase organic traffic, for local SEO for our physical locations, monitoring keyword positions, and improving site health. I and one other person use it for these tasks. Our SEO work helps us increase brand awareness and we are trying to do a better job of measuring how our improved traffic performance is helping turn out more volunteers and attendees to our programs.
- Organic research - great for reverse engineering competitors keywords
- Topic research - great for brainstorming blog content
- Site health - helpful to have an error checker
- Position tracker - helpful to see what's working, good supplement to search console
- UI can get messy
- Would like a top keyword column in reports
- Would like a serp overlay toolbar
- It has helped us grow our traffic by several multiples, which is what we wanted out of the product
I used Moz for years before switching to SEMrush (I was trained on it at my old job), and SEMrush is better in just about every way except for maybe blog content/resources.
Ahrefs looks like a worthy competitor and we may have gone with them if SEMrush were not more affordable. They seem to have a cleaner UI but aside from a couple nice additions to their reporting, and their content explorer, I think they're more or less on even footing.
