Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor

We monitor all of our network devices and all of our servers. We use it to get notified of issues.
  • Allows us to stay on top of issues, such as drive space issues.
  • We can monitor power outages and see when stores go down by monitoring the network equipment.
  • Able to see when applications have issues.
  • When you upgrade, certain applications are not as quick to reconfigure.
  • It has been a great help to our organization.
  • Bad is when it is time for renewal. They are overzealous to renew, they do not like to hear you worked with a VAR to renew.

We have evaluated the Spiceworks application and it was very close to replacing SolarWinds.

It is a great application and provides the user with a great dashboard and notification system.

Using SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor

15 - The Network Team, Server Team, Field Support, and the Helpdesk use the products from Orion to do their daily functions. This has assisted with determining issues prior to impact and we have been able to address the root cause of issues.
15 - It does not take much training to show someone how to navigate SolarWinds Applications. It is really simple to see an issue on the main screen click on it. You go to the issue and keep drilling down till you get to the bottom of the issue.
  • We use it on a large screen in the Helpdesk area so everyone can see and if they need to investigate any seen issues they can work on it on their own system.
  • We have it everywhere and have not been able to expand it as of yet.

Evaluating SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor and Competitors

We recently evaluated The Spiceworks Monitoring system and with a few new features that should be added it would be hard pressed to renew the SolarWinds suite. The only thing that might hold us back would be support and how new their product is.
