Overall Satisfaction with StarWind HyperConverged Appliance (HCA)

We are running a two-node HCA cluster and have been very happy with the performance and proactive support. StarWind HyperConverged Appliance is one of the only solutions that allowed us to simplify with hyper-convergence without spending a fortune. We looked at other HCI systems to replace our traditional SAN/host system and nothing compared to StarWind HyperConverged Appliance in terms of cost or functionality. If you are a smaller organization or school, I would highly recommend looking at StarWind HyperConverged Appliance.

Pros

  • StarWind HyperConverged Appliance allows you to run hyper-converged infrastructure for a fraction of the cost of other solutions.
  • They offer proactive support to quickly identify problems in your environment.
  • StarWind HyperConverged Appliance virtual san software works as advertised and does so efficiently and effectively.

Cons

  • I would like to see some better power management/additional sync settings during an unplanned power outage.
  • StarWind HyperConverged Appliance has been extremely reliable and a much-needed upgrade compared to our previous system. This has allowed our users to work without interruption.
  • StarWind HyperConverged Appliance was extremely cost-effective and allowed us to meet all our organizational requirements within our budget.
  • StarWind HyperConverged Appliance has performed flawlessly and we have yet to notice any performance issues on the server side.
We haven't needed support too often but when we did, they have been great to work with. Compared to the bigger vendors in the space, they are much more accessible and responsive. We are a small organization and sometimes that can work against you when trying to get help. StarWind HyperConverged Appliance has always treated us well and we have been partners with them for 4 years.
We haven't experienced any significant downtime. The longest we have been down was 20-30 minutes but we were also dealing with power issues.
StarWind HyperConverged Appliance was the only option that offered the performance, reliability, and high availability that we were looking for. It's also the solution that is tailored for small organizations and removes a lot of the complexities and extra components needed to make HCI work. The competitors each offer a solution that probably would have worked but none offered a solution that was within our budget.

StarWind HyperConverged Appliance is an excellent solution for small/medium organizations where storage and compute needs don't change too drastically from year to year. It may not be great for a large organization that is constantly adding more computing and storage. With many organizations moving resources to the cloud and downsizing local resources, this may be a good solution to control costs but still run capable hardware.
