Overall Satisfaction with Tealium Customer Data Hub

We use Tealium Customer Data Hub's client-side iQ Tag Management and server-side EventStream to help solve the following business problems:
- Attribution (which marketing channels are bringing us visitors and how do those channels contribute to conversions?)
- On-site activity (what do visitors do on our website, what do the search for, where do they navigate, how do they flow from entry to checkout?)
- Conversion Funnel (what happens from the entry page to the exit page?)
- UX/UI opportunities (What changes should we make to offer the best possible experience?)
- Content improvements (Can we identify opportunities to offer better content, better product descriptions, etc.?)

With Tealium, we can fully customize the type of data we collect, and we can test that the data looks good before we use it.




  • Tealium is HIGHLY customizable. We changed systems which caused duplicate order numbers to pass to Adobe Analytics which were then promptly rejected. With Tealium, we were easily able to modify the order numbers with a leading alphanumeric character to solve the issue.
  • EventStream makes it very easy to validate our data. Reporting from an affiliate seemed broken, so for the data we sent the affiliate, we sent the same data to a Google Doc to see that solve for the discrepancies we suspected.
  • Tealium provides excellent support. We spent months trying to identify why there was a gap in our data. We could tell that some transactions were not included in our analytics. Our Tealium Customer Care Manager suggested that I open a ticket. A few hours later, they identified the issue recommended a solution.
  • Tealium has pre-made tags for the most popular partners such as Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Facebook, and more. Those tags are easy to install, but often require customizations.
  • Tealium Customer Data Hub is powerful, but it has a significant learning curve. Users with JavaScript experience, developers (with a solid understanding of browser Dev Tools), and technical minded people will learn it more quickly.
  • Some of the documentation seems lacking. My biggest complaint is that the documentation may explain things, but often is missing clear examples. If I had some clear examples, I could possibly avoid opening tickets for tech support.
  • iQ Tag Management - for client-side data collection
  • EventStream - for server-side data collection
No vendor has ever delivered the level of support that we regularly get from Tealium. Whenever we run into an issue, we submit a ticket and always hear back within a few hours (or sooner based on the urgency noted in the ticket). Tealium support often helps me to customize the tags or pixels we set, they help to solve problems such as "Why did data suddenly stop being collected?" and more.
Tealium allows us to completely customize the data we send to our partners (through pixels). We have a solid understanding how visitors interact with our site, and with that information we've been able to improve our site search functionality, our navigation, out content, our checkout flow, and more to help give our visitors a great experience.
Tealium is better than Google Tag Manager from every angle:
  • Tealium offers world class support while GTM has no support.
  • Tealium offers the ability to fully customize the data being collected and sent to tags.
  • Tealium's EventStream allows us to collect data at the server level, which is not an option with GTM.

Over the years, I've heard recommendations to use Google Tag Manager because it's free. This is true, but I always counter with this: Tealium's tech team offers PHENOMENAL support. It's absolutely top notch. When we run into issues, Tealium is outstanding in helping us to find solutions, offer guidance, share industry knowledge and best practices, and to assure that we get our issues resolved. Another clear advantage is that Tealium allows us to collect data on the server-side (which I understand that GTM does not) this may become more important in the future as cookies tend to be going away. Finally, Tealium allows us to customize our analytics far beyond free tools such as GTM.
