TeamViewer - small business remote access
Overall Satisfaction with TeamViewer
TeamViewer is one of the remote connection options available to manage servers and workstations as well as share screens. This software sits as an unattended remote access software in most situations, but can also be a way of sharing screens from end users.
Pros
- Great for screen viewing: responsive and fast.
- Free software for personal use. No strings attached.
- Reliable service, does not have issues or go offline.
Cons
- User interface is clunky. Could use an upgrade in process of initiating remote connection.
- Interface is not intuitive. There is "a lot going on" when opening the application so difficult to walk end users through connection.
- Not quite as feature rich as software like LogMeIn or ScreenConnect.
- TeamViewer is very affordable, this is a very big plus considering LogMeIn Central's drastic price increases over the years.
- May require changing platforms as MSP grows, TeamViewer's main weakness seems to be scalability.
LogMeIn Central remains the go-to product for remote desktop. Splashtop is on the same level as TeamViewer. GoToMyPC is more of a temporary, attended remote support application. VNC Connect is very basic, but also stable and feature-rich.
TeamViewer Feature Ratings
TeamViewer Security and Support
Did not work directly with premium support but have opened 2-3 tickets with TeamViewer support for general needs over the years and each time they were quick to respond and helped with my issue. It is safe to assume the premium support is even better at resolving problems and account issues.
TeamViewer does an excellent job in giving remote access to individual workstations. The software is easy to setup and use by non-tech savvy users alike. The connection is very secure with 256-bit encryption end to end. Users of the software are prodded (and really should be forced at this point with security in the world) to enable MFA when signing up for an account. If a user logs in on an untrusted device, TeamViewer stops them in their tracks to force a notification email acknowledgement. This is extremely vital as someone would not be able to gain access to computer remote control without first verifying their device (which implies access to the owner's Inbox, first).
Yes, the tool works very well and their security is helpful in today's day and age. More businesses are working remotely in full work from home or hybrid models and TeamViewer allows them to act as if they are in the office with their computer in front of them. TeamViewer is a great way to ensure the world keeps moving, pandemic or thereafter.
