Overall Satisfaction with TriNet
TriNet is used to provide HR services including payroll management and administration, benefit management and administration, vacation management, etc. Our users access TriNet via the web. For a small company, one of the major benefits is the broad benefit package which has allowed us to attract and retain critical and experienced talent from larger organizations. It is also, for us, a more cost effective alternative than managing these services ourselves.
We have recently recommended TriNet to several others and I understand that one of those companies is proceeding to sign up with them
Pros
- Benefits - TriNet offers a very broad array of employee benefits including health, dental, disability, life insurance, 401-K, and supplemental coverages. The cost per employee is effective and much better than a company of our small size could obtain on our own.
- Manages continuation of benefits for employees leaving the company.
- Handles payroll and various state reporting requirements. We have locations in several states and having TriNet manage the state reporting requirements assures it is done properly. When problems arise, TriNet's expert team swings into action and rectifies them.
Cons
- Employee discounts is an area that TriNet could improve. They offer thru TriNet marketplace discounts on purchases such as hotels, car rentals, travel. However, the discounts are very small and we have often been able to do better on our own. We suggest that TriNet better use its combined purchasing power to negotiate discounts on travel (hotel, car rental, airlines) more akin to those realized by large corporations.
- Issues with health benefits: TriNet has an employee customer service number but they often just defer to the insurance carrier. TriNet should be more proactive in advocating for the employee with the insurance carriers.
- We used to use a competitor to manage payroll and 401-K. While this was a very large company, their documentation practices on 401-K plans were at best poor. This presented many compliance issues which we had to overcome. TriNet is meticulous about compliance and plan reporting documentation. Getting historical data from this previous service provider was difficult.
- Payroll is always accurate and on time. Payroll reminders to management are helpful and provided with sufficient lead time. When last minute adjustments were necessary, TriNet was always able to accomodate us.
- Trinet is cost-effective both from the perspective of internally doing similar activities. Furthermore, in our assessment, the cost per employee is equal to or less than that of other competitors of TriNet.
- The security behind the TriNet benefit packages has allowed us to attract skilled employees from much larger companies which we otherwise would not have been able to do.
- Paychex and ADP Streamline Payroll
Paychex was a previous service provider to the company prior to 2012 for payroll and 401K services. We were very disappointed with the quality of their 401K plan documentation and their reporting capabilities. They did not offer benefits that were acceptable to the company. Hence we moved on.
ADP does a fine job at managing payroll and reporting. However TriNet was much more a simpler, one-stop shop for us which represented efficiencies in internal time and resource management

TriNet Feature Ratings
Using TriNet
7 - CEO, Chief Medical Officer, Executive Director Clinical Development, Exec. Dir Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance, CFO, COO, VP Process Development, Executive Administrative Assistant
2 - The system is extremely easy to use, minimal support efforts are required by the client company. When there are complex matters we reach out to our assigned TriNet customer consultant who either resolves the matter or advises us on approaches. Once a year we have to select benefit options for open enrollment and bimonthly we process/approve payroll. Everything is done on the web interface which is intuitive and easy to use; TriNet is constantly improving their web service functionalities.

- deferred compensation
