Adobe Presenter

As I mentioned earlier, it's best used for "presentations," rather than bona fide "training." That's why we tend to use it when the information is relatively simple and/or doesn't need to be fully internalized or mastered (which would require providing opportunities for practice and feedback and a more engaging, interactive learning experience). However, it can be used as part of a blended-learning solution, with some information provided via an Adobe Presenter module first, and then some kind of instructor-led session as a follow-up, which would include more role-specific info, as well as practice and feedback opportunities. Also, as I mentioned earlier, Adobe Presenter Video Express is great for creating quick overview demos about a new system -- more of a "see what it can do" type thing than a "here's how you do it" thing (unless the "it" is very simple and the video is used more as a microlearning/performance support type of offering).

Cornerstone OnDemand

If your organization has a training function or needs to broadcast training to a large audience quickly, it is a no-brainer. Cornerstone has a host of different options for your organization, not just limited to the training piece. Our company is looking into leveraging some of these other options as well, including the "connect" piece

Pros

  • Because it integrates with PowerPoint, it is possible to go from planning outline to storyboard to final output withing a single document and as part of a seamless and logical design process.
  • Its ability to create videos that capture screens along with web-cam recordings, then edit them within the solution means higher level training recordings can be created versus, say a recorded WebEx training session.
  • Presenter's ability to create quiz elements similar to Adobe Captivate, add interactions, and interface with Adobe's LMS means it is capable of functioning as a complete e-learning development environment. .
  • If up front cost is a consideration, Presenter wins hands down over many better known training development and e-learning solutions.

  • Ability to configure system and add custom fields is easy. This is important because as the business grows it may require the system to be used in ways that it had not been previously.
  • Layout is visually appealing and intuitive for most users. This is important because it does not require a great deal of time to introduce a new user on how to use Cornerstone OnDemand.
  • Enrollments are simple with the use of departments or customized groups. This can save a lot of time for the administrator as they can essentially do batch enrollments for large groups of individuals.

Cons

  • I feel it is a bit overpriced. That may be because of the Adobe name.
  • Our team has experienced a few technical issues over time which sometimes limit our use of the software.
  • Limited features available for our macOS users.

  • The loading of historical data during implementation could've gone smoother. I would recommend other customers lean on the out of the box upload tools and not on CSOD's implementation consultants when migrating historical data.
  • While CSOD's certification module is powerful, the interface can be a bit cumbersome (click heavy) for end users.
  • While CSOD offers several avenues for customer support, learning how to escalate pressing issues in an effective manner requires a learning curve on the part of the customer. I would recommend eliciting the advice of other customers.

My company is pretty invested in the Adobe ecosystem and is unlikely to change that in the foreseeable future. Also, Adobe Presenter is a very valuable tool and, with the new subscription model and the pricing we have, a relatively modest expense now. It's also fairly easy to learn and use, so it is starting to spread beyond the sphere of the various Learning & Development departments.

We have had a lot of issues with Cornerstone and are unhappy with their technical support. However, our employees and management enjoy the system and it has become embedded in our operations. At this point, changing to a new system would not create enough value to be worth the cost and time

Usability

Adobe Presenter7.3
Based on 1 answer
For all of the reasons I mentioned earlier. Overall, it's quite easy to create basic presentations with and to publish output with, either to an Adobe server, an LMS, or, I think, as stand-alone module. But there are some areas for improvement and better in-product help and explanations would be helpful, as well.

It’s surprisingly slow for a SAAS product. When you click on links, there’s no hourglass or waiting indicator, so it’s difficult to tell if the system is going to respond.

Support

Adobe Presenter3.6
Based on 1 answer
I think I pretty much answered this earlier....premium support is extremely expensive and online support can be difficult to navigate. Although, to be fair, when it comes to Presenter (compared to, say, Captivate), there isn't too frequent a need for support, since Presenter is a rather simple tool to use

They are doing a great job of creating new features and fixing anything that is broken. However, sometimes you have to wait until the next quarterly update to get something fixed. I also feel like their Global Product Support team could be better. Perhaps hiring additional people would help.

The interface not great. It would be nice to have a full video vs. slide by slide.

They use their LMS tool – it’s a curriculum. It is slow going.

Dig deep on what your current processes are and how they match up to Cornerstone OnDemand functionality. It's not that the Cornerstone OnDemand is bad, it just the amount of work it requires you to do to get your current data to fit into their system.

Alternatives Considered

I compared Adobe Presenter to Brainshark many years ago and found that I vastly preferred Presenter because it had much better quality audio (Brainshark used telephones to record audio at that point, although that may have changed over the years) and was easier and more intuitive to use (at least to me. I also looked at Snap, but that wasn't quite as full-featured, although it was vastly less expensive. Another main reason why we use Adobe Presenter is that my company is pretty deeply invested in Adobe products and we have our own hosted Adobe server, which we can easily publish to via Adobe Presenter

For ATS, I've used NEOGOV, PeopleAdmin and a few smaller systems. Since CSOD's ATS is fairly young, it could use some pointers from the more established systems. But it has a good foundation and CSOD's teams desire to improve it is reassuring that we'll get a better product before too long. The LMS, I've used homemade systems mainly. Those are much simpler. The LMS is very comprehensive and offers about as much configuration as you could need. Good system overall.

Return on Investment

  • It will be safe to say that overall impact had been positive in regards to ROI
  • Training costs have been reduced by a huge margin since we started using this tool.
  • Time consumed in training staff is also decreased, as with Adobe Presenter training can be done remotely and are able to train different groups at the same time.

  • Thanks to Cornerstone OnDemand we become a learning organization. We want our employees to succeed in their job and grow professionally and the system enables us to do that in a very easy and methodological way.
