ASG-Remote Desktop

If multiple sets of credentials and User Directories are involved across the servers you're connecting to, this is a huge help in organizing them all and managing changes over time. Having multiple concurrent server connections in tabs instead of separate windows is also much more convenient. While we're only using RDP, there are multiple connection methods to facilitate a mixed environment.

ConnectWise Control

ConnectWise has worked for every application we have used it on. I use it for troubleshooting of remote computers as well as for employees who need to log in remotely. The interface works equally well for control of Mac and PC and it doesn't really matter which is controlling which (there are a few quirks, though).

Cons

ASG-Remote Desktop

  • Honestly, no complaints, given our usage.

ConnectWise Control

  • If CWC integrated with more RMM software other than LabTech it would be great as LabTech is way too expensive and convoluted at this point so we discontinued using it in favor of a simpler and much less expensive option.
  • Though it does support multiple monitors well, it would be nice to have the ability to have it automatically pop each remote monitor out to the local monitors if so desired.
  • Right now it uses email for multifactor authentication, I would rather it use an electronic key that can be stored on cell phone or user desktop.
  • The ability for it to automatically login to a Windows desktop would be a big help as well. It will store a username and password but you must manually send a control-alt-delete and then click a button to have it fill. Tying to something like Lastpass along with an autologin feature would be great.

On the whole SC is a very powerful tool that is a vital part of the IT service arsenal. On-site visits are an "emergency" only type of scenario. Just "showing your face" is not winning any browny points for me. If my client sees my face, it's usually just to upgrade hardware or to deal other aspects of business. SC provides me and my client the bulk of the info I need to get projects done.

The past 45 days, only had one outage that lasted about 15 minutes. NOT TOO SHABBY! There have been some unexpected reboots and moves but not a show stopper in any way.

It performs well. It also has full control over windows security and does not get hung up like GoToMeeting when trying to install remote software at the prompt to install as admin / override. I have used TeamViewer, WebEx, LogMeIn and GoToMeeting. This is by far the best at spontaneous, remote control. It is also very easy to get a novice user connected to the session.

Great product, use it daily with a second support staff. Would love to see this expanded with other systems such as Slack or other collaboration software where a user can easily share their screen, do a conference or access another users screen quickly and easily. This isn't the most friendly for "non-techy" people when comparing to Slack's ScreenShare solution but it works very well with our use case scenarios

I find ScreenConnect to be very simple and effective overall, with the main problem being that a number of my clients can't download the app due to existing firewalls and so on. Otherwise it does its job well, and I'm happy with it.

ConnectWise has done everything they could to help us in any situation. Great support team and their new updates are always providing features that we need. Its a simple solution that works the way we need it to. Their legacy pricing model is still much better than their subscription based model however it is still fair pricing

Alternatives Considered

ASG-Remote Desktop

ASG-Remote is very flexible and with so many options available it makes the configuration you want for your setup super simple. Other products do not offer the extra features for database and reporting. As well, it offers all the connection types you can possibly think of. The ability to automate tasks for regular servers and workstations is amazing!

ConnectWise Control

ConnectWise offered everything I needed at a very competitive price. Functionality was very similar to other products and since ConnectWise had everything that was needed at a competitive price, there was not a further need to demo other products, so ConnectWise was purchased.

As far as I can see there are no real barriers to scaling up - as and when we need more subscriptions, we can add them in with no negative impact to the existing way that we're using the tool

ConnectWise Control

  • It has allowed our electronic security tech support staff to help our technicians in the field and our customers much faster than they otherwise would have. Being able to see someone else's screen cuts support times down exponentially.
  • The cost of the software, especially for a small organization like ours, is significantly more manageable than many of the other competitors in this space. It also reduces our time to have only one software to manage for meetings,
  • In terms of IT, the software has also increased my efficiency because I'm able to work from anywhere, I'm able to work on multiple computers at the same time from one station, and I'm able to work at any time, which allows me to do maintenance after hours if the need arises.
