It has a comment option on the page, where you can tag other teammates tagging them. it sends the mail notification. Comment at the page end is pretty good for referring to other stakeholders and future references of the topic on the page. Creating the highlights of the discussions, and meeting held points with highlighted tagging. Easy shortcuts such as to add a date just type "//". The interface is cool and has easy shortcuts for quick page making.

Microsoft Exchange Server is the sole option if storing emails locally is a must. If you're a startup in need of an email hosting service, I recommend Microsoft 365. Exchange Server has lost its reputation for security in recent years, and I don't think it's a suitable fit if you don't have a managed staff, either in-house or externally provided. Backups must be set up and tested, additional spam filtering software is required, and ongoing security updates must be applied.

    • Managing users is a breeze. It is easy to set up new mailboxes and distribution lists, remove old ones, and relocate them.
    • Using Active Directory is a breeze, and the integration is top notch. Again, the finest of the finest.
    • It is easy to include mobile devices. The process of connecting to Microsoft Outlook is simple and straightforward.

    Cons

    Atlassian

    • Navigation. Similar to other Atlassian products, users have complained that aspects of Confluence are difficult to learn right away[.]
    • An issue that users can face when using Confluence is attempting to edit a document while someone else is editing. Although users can access the document and save it, they are unable to see the changes happening in [real-time] that other users are implementing until they refresh their page. Some users have also noted that this can result in loss of edits.
    • Another drawback of using Confluence is its specific organizational structure. All information is stored within one page or project, although the page is able to be broken up into sections, some users do not prefer this style. Users can use the ‘page tree’ on each page to organize the different elements of each project.

    • Exchange Online has a limitation of only being able to send a message to 500 recipients within a 24-hour period. Bulk emails may therefore require batching.
    • Initially, provisioning users can take a little while due to mailboxes being created and policies applied. It would be advisable to give a least 24 hours.
    • PowerShell skills are recommended to perform bulk administrative operations. They may be slow and tedious from the Administrative Console.

I am confident that Atlassian can come with additional and innovative macros and functions to add value to Confluence. In 6 months, Atlassian transformed a good collaborative tools into a more comprehensive system that can help manage projects and processes, as well as "talk" with other Atlassian products like Jira. We are in fact learning more about Jira to evaluate a possible fit to complement our tool box.

      Usability

      Atlassian

Confluence can - and in my personal opinion, it will - be a bit hard to use in the first moment. Atlassian is a great company and is eager to help you with any question you have, though. The interface seems to be a bit clumsy at first but the customization options are enough to make it easier and simpler. In general, Confluence is easy to use when you understand what each section does, but this can take a while.

Microsoft Exchange is well suited for inexperienced Messaging Admins and veterans alike. If you have no idea of the fundamentals of modern email (SMTP, mail headers, MX Records, SPF/DKIM, Encryption, etc.) and just need to get people's mailboxes and calendars the support they need, you can use it with confidence. If you are an old pro and want to leverage and dovetail your Powershell and AD with Exchange, you will be rewarded for your efforts.

Pages load very quickly, which makes it useful for quickly obtaining information. The search functionality is also very quick and is able to parse through all of the documents to provide the most relevant results for the query. Other information based software gets bogged down, but so far Atlassian Confluence maintains its performance.

      Support Rating

      Atlassian

This rating is specifically for Atlassian's self-help documentation on their website. Often times, it is not robust enough to cover a complex usage of one of their features. Frequently, you can find an answer on the web, but not from Atlassian. Instead, it is usually at a power user group elsewhere on the net.

We have a good enterprise agreement with Microsoft which affords us quick phone support. I have found the support staff knowledgeable and prompt with a solution when required. At times it may be difficult to schedule a call back, this is mainly due to our need for calls early in the morning which happens to be during a shift change at Microsoft support.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the initial implementation (and the subsequent upgrades and implementations made over the years).

I haven't use any other software that I could compare to AtlassianConfluence. The closest one would be Sharepoint, but it's a different beast. Sharepoint has more feature, but it's a lot harder to use and understand. Furthermore like many Microsoft solutions the UI is terrible and very difficult to understand sometimes. Atlassian Confluence is just plain easy to use.

Microsoft Exchange Product The best cloud-based enterprise-grade archiving platform with a host of features that enable files to be securely archived and retrieved with advanced search options. This tool is very easy to use and has a User-friendly interface. It is a highly reliable platform that allows all employees to automatically store their data without any limitations. It offers a cost-effective solution with customized policy management. We are happy that the customer support team is always fast and concerned, and the product's uninterrupted service experience. It is very good that it stores data in real-time without losing it, even in the event of a disaster. The cost-effective solution and integration with other tools are seamless.

      Return on Investment

      Atlassian

      • We've gone from folders and folders of Word documents and PDFs into a single system with a search feature to bring all of our data together and trackable
      • While onboarding took a bit longer for the company (to switch from a Word document centric mindset - to a web-based one), overall the company has embraced the features and power of Confluence within the working stack
      • However, as costs continue to climb for the Atlassian product, we are forced to continue our evaluation of the product - with replacing it a remote possibility if it begins to outprice its usefulness to us.

      • One con and negative is that Migration to the cloud can be a hassle.
      • Depending on the Exchange version you’re running, the steps to complete the migration might require a lot of effort, starting with the prerequisites. Many businesses that are willing to migrate their services to Office 365 end up canceling the project when they run against this challenge because they lack support. However, If you decide to work with an MSP, you can benefit from expert advice and get a dedicated team that can guide you through the process. This will guarantee a smooth transition and quick adoption of Exchange Online.
      • One negative is the Increased Bandwidth, Some organizations, especially highly collaborative ones, will need to double or even triple their bandwidth upon moving to hosted Exchange.
      • End-user proximity to Server Performance and information access without the internet helps in improving Performance and access times as long as Exchange Server is well configured and set up.
