Cisco Webex Room Series

Obviously, Cisco Webex Room Series devices are optimized for a Webex Meetings environment. webex devices combined with Webex Meetings are by far the best video conferencing solution on the market. They also work well for Teams meetings (with CVI or simply in Web RTC). On the other hand, in a Zoom environment, the situation becomes more complicated. You must absolutely have the Zoom Connector.

StarLeaf

StarLeaf is good because it is allowing our Company and global teams to create and conduct meetings and video calls. However, the mic often has issues as well as connection problems. The mobile app is excellent for joining the video conf calls.

Pros

Cisco Webex Room Series

  • The Cisco Spark Room series has many new technologies that make this unit well worth the purchase. The auto room framing feature makes manual zoom and focus a thing of the past. The unit will auto zoom and pan to frame the screen around a single person in a conference room or zoom out and capture the whole room if there are multiple people in the conference. The Cisco Spark Room series also has an active speaker tracking system that will track users in the room and pan and zoom when that person is speaking.
  • The Cisco Spark Room series units can be cloud or on-premise registered taking advantage of whichever platform best suits your needs and current investments.
  • When the Cisco Spark Room series units are attached to 4K TVs or monitors you get the best possible resolution for video viewing with crystal clear presentations.

  • Integrating teams around the world.
  • The connection from StarLeaf to IBM Lotus Notes calendar is very useful.

Cons

Cisco Webex Room Series

  • The most notable issue we see during projects is the fact that the cost of the product sometimes is way too high for the benefit. In other words, sometimes, you'd like to have a video endpoint in a small room, but you can't budget to buy such good equipment.
  • Comparing to other remote controls (i.e. Apple TV), sometimes the remote can be very complex for simple operations like starting a meeting or ending a meeting.

StarLeaf

  • The microphone has lots of issues, specially in the beginning of calls.
  • Quality of the sound sometimes is not the greatest.

We like our Cisco endpoints a lot. However, the technology is getting better in the Zoom room market and we are interested in exploring those options. I'd really like to see some new improvements in the room kit series such as wireless controllers and the ability to mount the room kits in multiple configurations. I would also like to see the Room Kit and Room Kit Plus series standardize their audio line inputs to accommodate 3rd party microphone and DSP solutions.

The OS is extremely intuitive and Cisco worked hard and keeping things simple from deployment to end-user functionalities. When you add a guy that’s coming in to play in the latest releases this makes for a very compelling and productive offer/ product. Even for new users, there is practically no learning curve as everyone in the work environment has previously used Webex Room Series.

As long as the video endpoint is under contract, you don't need to worry about support from Cisco TAC, be it for case creation, feature incidents/requests, and ultimately replacements. Ticket creation or service requests are as easy as emailing Cisco, or by do-it-yourself via the Cisco Portal. Response time is good, even with the pandemic happening. There's room for improvement where some engineers (TAC) need a little bit more training, as the template they use contains questions that are often already answered by the customer.

Cisco Webex Room Series

We pay about the same (a little more per room but not more that $1000) for the addition of video in to each conference room. So this was such a great addition for us because once you add video into the mix then the meeting changes. Things get done faster, people are more focused and engaged. And overall happier. They think they will not like it, but in the end, our users really like to see each other and feel more connected. It's especially relevant now that we have this COVID stuff keeping us apart. Cisco has been a life saver during this time.

Microsoft Teams, when I used, was far better than StarLeaf, on video, sound, and feature connections.
