Dialpad

Being able to text from the desktop is a huge advantage to my work. Being able to receive pictures, mark them up for clarity on the desktop and send them back is a huge time saver for me. As a straight-up VoIP tool, it is less appropriate - call quality is often poor, the advantages of going through the desktop are minimal, and if I'm using the iOS app I'd rather just make a regular phone call, for more reliable quality and connection.

  • It is the mainly used IDE for JAVA developers.
  • It has good integration with most source control software products like Perforce, GIT, RTC or even TFS.
  • Relatively nice user interface.

Dialpad

  • Dialpad's desktop software is generally pretty reliable. Calls are good quality, and it had a lot of features.
  • Their call transcription option is really cool and it's very cool that they're offering progressive new tools like that.
  • Their integration with UberConference (also their product) is great - it made conference calls easy to set up and send the info to all people involved. Having that as a back up as well was always nice to have.
  • Their support team was generally pretty solid, even roping in engineers to give us a full analysis of why calls went bad.

  • Constantly needing an update (could be seen as a pro)
  • Need a STRONG internet connection for optimal results
  • Support team isn't always quickly responsive
  • All settings found on the internet instead of in-app - makes for a lot of unnecessary clicking around

Almost every feature is quite easy to use and understand. The only complaint I have is with the call recording features, it should be able to be controlled by the Admin instead of just the user so it can be turned on automatically and archived centrally.

I have never had direct contact with Dialpad support, but when I have asked our contact for help with Dialpad, she has gotten back to me quickly with answers if she did not know them and had to ask Dialpad. I appreciate the frequent updates that Dialpad does, which tells me that they care about improving their product. I also appreciate the newsletters that Dialpad sends out with helpful tips, information, and updates, which tells me they are striving to provide a good product to their customers.

Our department was previously using Google Voice which functioned well enough to meet our needs, but we had some issues with receiving calls and it did not have us connected to our coworkers across our organization. Dialpad allowed us to all be on the same system which allowed easy access for calling coworkers but also for our tech support to focus on only one system instead of several at once.

Dialpad

  • Positive - It has improved our workflow in the solicitation of employees since we no longer need to worry about sending too many texts and getting shut down.
  • Positive - It works great on all mobile apps.
  • Negative - The interface is slow and glitchy and not as quick or easy to use as Google Voice.
