Success Factors is really well suited to handling needs of my organization. They've done a good job integrating with our course catalog and making it easy to book courses right from within the application. It falls short in letting managers cascade their objectives easily. When I cascade an objective, the cascaded objective will often inherit comments from my own objective and share them down to my reports - not ideal behavior.

Pros

SAP SuccessFactors

  • The Recruiting module is one of the best tools on SuccessFactors. This has so many capabilities and has truly helped managing all the positions and candidates that have applied to our requisitions.
  • The Learning module is a great asset to provide and push out required training for all employees. Tracking and reporting is seamless and easy to execute. Easy to manage, update and provide to all or a few employees.
  • Performance and Goals module is a great way to track and maintain professional and personal goals. This process is easy to track, update when needed, and beneficial for manager and direct reports. Powerful and accurate goal management for all levels.
  • Reporting module is easy to create own customized reports as needed that may not be standard out of the box. Ability to share those reports across groups/employees is extremely beneficial.
  • The org chart functiality is really impressive. You can make edits/changes within the org chart that have real time effects. The ease to view divisions and company org charts is so simple. One of the best features of any HRIS I have ever experienced.

  • There is a high level of disparity between some of the products. Many were purchased later on and "bolted" to the existing software. Unfortunately, there are always parts of this purchased software that do not mesh well with the existing system. They sometimes require separate log ins, additional uploads/permission/management, and sometimes separate reporting. There hasn't been much of an effort by SuccessFactors to better align these products so that there is a fluid transition between the modules.
  • The system lags in several key areas. The latest software update (v12) adds a far more robust homepage, however, it slows the initial site load considerably. Navigation between the modules is also very slow.
  • Parts of the software are dated. They either lack functionality that most systems have today or simply look like older technology. The v12 update improves on this issue but is only available for some modules.
  • Much of the software feels like it was "designed" by programmers. The user interface is not the most intuitive and can be confusing for non tech-savvy users. Even more astute users struggle with over-complicated processes and layouts.

  • When uploading certain resumes, I hope the TargetRecruit candidate search also maps the previous attachments we included versus just mapping the most recent resume
  • When creating reports, I hope the functionality is faster because it loads in minutes instead of seconds
  • There are instances where the values we add on a single profile is maxed out or limited - I hope they can make it unlimited values

Support is still lacking. If we don't have a critical business need where we're looking to license something new, there is no partnership with SuccessFactors. Unless of course you purchase the Platinum Support which we did not. It is difficult for us to take advantage of new functionality when we have professional services fees that will be incurred as a result. We're in a tough economy and our budgets are slim. We don't have wiggle room to add $5k here or $10k there. The overall integration into a total HCM solution is also lacking.

The overall platform could use the updates, so the overall look of it seems more modern. Also, the number of possible customizations could be made more simple to implement. SAP SuccessFactors does have a helpline that is helpful and free. On a positive note, it is beneficial in our performance reviews and recruiting efforts.

Current environment includes ADP WorkforceNow and it had limitations on workflows and performance. Workday was reviewed but found to be cost prohibitive at the time. SF provided a good balance of needs we were looking for with core modules we needed to develop.

TargetRecruit

Bullhorn is not as easy to use as TargetRecruit. TargetRecruit is web-based, and you can use it anywhere. The protection is still there because it will send a code to your email if you have used the application to a new device.ZipRecruiter is a way for our firm to get inbound applicants. However, most of those applicants are not a fit for the role. ZipRecruiter doesn't have the functionality to scrutinize and avoid unfit candidates in applying for the role.In totality, LinkedIn was messaging, and the tracking system is not that yet updated as to how TargetRecruit makes it easy, and powerful. LinkedIn message and tracking system still doesn't have the option to let us know how to avoid messaging the candidate once per week. There is a way for you to see it on LinkedIn but it takes more than three clicks for you to do it. Whereas, in TargetRecruit, you can see it immediately in the candidate or client profile.

Return on Investment

SAP SuccessFactors

  • SF is not cheap. I wouldn't recommend it as a solution for a small business. And while it is constantly being developed, in my humble opinion it is not yet a mature enough player to provide a large business the flexibility and support that it needs. It is a good tool for mid-size businesses.
  • The amount of support that is needed from SF in order to use the system to its fullest potential can really only be gained with a dedicated support representative (very costly) and most changes that need to be made are additional charges and are outsourced to other preferred consultant groups that work regularly with SF. These are costly and can quickly add up based on the level of customization and changes that need to be made each year.
  • I'm in Human Resources so I hear all the moaning and complaining from managers and employees regarding performance management and compensation planning. I've been in several companies and used several other tools to administer comp and performance manaement. I will say that the base compensation, goal planning, and performance management modules in SF are efficient and easy to use and administer. Like any system, you just need to get through the initial implementation phase to reap the full rewards.
