Overall Satisfaction with SAP SuccessFactors

SAP SuccessFactors is a very user friendly HR tool which not just does transactional actions but also helps with strategic decisions like succession, reporting. We use Recruiting, ONB, Employee central, Learning, career and succession, and reporting.
  • Employee self service
  • Leanrning
  • Succession
  • Onboarding
  • Recruiting / RMK
  • Reportting
  • Automation of tasks
  • Better user experience
  • HR autonomy
The integration between SF to SAP HR on premise especially related to dynamic action isn't good. Rather there is no standard solution for that.
The overall implementation took almost an extra year than what we planned. It wasn't a pleasant one but we managed it and are successfully live now. It wasn't easy for sure.
  • UKG Workforce Central (discontinued)
We are a SAP company and had SAP HR since 2000 so it made sense to be in the SAP framework.

SAP SuccessFactors Implementation

The scope wasn't defined well.
You need to be on top of vendor management.
Change mgmt is a constant process not a one time thing.
  • Third-party professional services
TSP/ixerv
Yes - 2018 US/CA implemented RCM/RMK/ONB 1.0
EC implementation with RCM/ONB for BR /MX
Phase 1 was Brazil and Mexico
Phase 2 was US/CA/ Peru/ Uyrg/Arg
Change management was a major issue with the implementation - One time training isn't enough and a lot of reputation is needed. It needs to reinforced even after go live
  • Scope definition was incorrect
  • Change management
  • Vendor management

SAP SuccessFactors Training

It was neither easy nor difficult but given an option I would train before implementing so you can ask the right questions.

Configuring SAP SuccessFactors

It's a flexible tool, its comes with standard config but any custom config is possible without the difficulty. You still need the help of a specialist to do that though.
Keep it as simple and as standard as possible.
Some - we have done small customizations to the interface - It wasn't too bad.
Some - we have added small pieces of custom code - This is the part which isn't very good with SF. This was mainly to replace dynamic actions from on premise. We had custom code to integrate dynamic action from SF to on premise SAP HR.

SAP SuccessFactors Support

They are generally responsive and get you the solutions. It's just that sometimes they don't work as one SAP team and keep transferring tickets internally saying it's not our issue.
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
Support understands my problem
Escalation required
Support doesn't seem to care
Yes we did...
Yes - We have reported quite a few bugs and some were resolved on time and there are some which are still open and have been since an year.
I really like the chat feature as you can sometimes get instant response which can help resolve your issue.

Using SAP SuccessFactors

The tool is user friendly and not very complex.
ProsCons
Like to use
Relatively simple
Easy to use
Technical support not required
Consistent
Quick to learn
Convenient
Feel confident using
Familiar
None
  • Basic configuration
  • Workflows approval
  • Integration with SAP on premise
Yes - I would say it's average as there are not too many features available currently but I hear they are working on mobile and a lot to come in the roadmap

SAP SuccessFactors Reliability

It's not too complex to scale it and we have it across our organization in 7 countries.
We have had availability almost always, just with one or two exceptions.
The speed is pretty good, sometimes reports and stories are slow.

Integrating SAP SuccessFactors

  • SAP HR on premise
  • Dozuki
  • Isovision
  • Dozuki
  • HireRight
Our payroll, benefits and retirement are in SAP HR on premise so we have all employees data being integrated to on premise. Getting the integration wasn't easy, the biggest challenge was to have dynamic action update real time with integration in on premise.
The other third party ones are mostly through API.
  • HireRight
We do know they support but we are having some issue with that.
  • API (e.g. SOAP or REST)
Make sure you understand what can be and can't be integrated in a standard option.

Relationship with SAP

The vendor knows what they are talking about, but scope understanding could have been better.
The consultants were good, the management could have been better and more upfront.
We did use this service to do analysis of the solution being implemented. It was a good check point during the project to see if everything is going as planned.
There was a delay in our project by almost a year and I don't have all the details, but this was something that was negotiated.
Please make sure the scope is very clear and well defined.
