I have only used PeopleMatter for the restaurants I work for now and it is very helpful for the amount of employees we have. I feel that PeopleMatter would not be the right choice for super small business with only a few employees.

ZipRecruiter

ZipRecruiter does have a large number of candidates and only seems to be growing. If you're looking for more general roles, I think it would be a useful tool. The more specific you get, the less likely it seems you get the right candidates. Most of the applicants I received from ZipRecruiter or applicants applying on their own were not even remotely qualified for the role. Additionally, although not an outrageous fee for companies that hire in large quantities, if you're putting up just 1 or 2 jobs a month, the price can be steep (especially with what you're getting).

Pros

Snag

  • The assessments in the Hire module allow managers and supervisors to choose from applicants who are suited for our line of work.
  • The onboarding process allows our company to avoid costly printing of hiring packets.
  • The Learn module allows us to reach all of our associates with the same material at one time, which allows consistency throughout our stores.

ZipRecruiter

  • Finding new candidates. When sourcing extensively with only one or two platforms, the candidate pool can run dry from time to time. ZipRecruiter typically had some new candidates to bring into the mix.
  • Easy candidate ratings. Trying to use a numerical scale can be clumsy. I appreciate the three thumbs rating option provided by ZipRecruiter.
  • Allows you to search by keywords. Most recruiting platforms provide this feature in their resume database, but it still warrants mention here.

Cons

Snag

  • Honestly, it is hard to find anything that needs improvement. Each time we have had an issue, it is resolved quickly. We wished for a better support page, it will be coming soon. We asked for a performance module, we begin BETA testing in a few weeks.

ZipRecruiter

  • Showing results based on the specific site the job was promoted
  • A more detailed list of sites under their umbrella

I would definitely renew our use of PeopleMatter, because it would not be beneficial or cost effective for us to go back to doing it in house. If they are willing to listen to our needs and wants and update the program for the better on a regular basis why would you. I feel like we got in on the ground floor and we are evolving with them

Despite the advantages Glassdoor and LinkedIn have over ZipRecruiter, it still fills a very powerful role. We have tested other software to fill this role, and no other service is as effective. Because of this, we have recently renewed our ZipRecruiter subscription for the next year, and encourage other small businesses to give it a try

The account reps were easily reachable. I have made different types of recommendation, especially about the communication part. There are videos and a help center with fairly quick response times. I can easily update my career site, and they even have a text to hire option. I have not used that yet, but we are discussing it.

Have not had to utilize support recently, but in past instances they have reached out within 12 hours to help rectify any problems or answer any questions about features and functionality. The only issue I ever had with them was trying to clarify, when they previously advertised that they posted on 200+ job boards, if that meant that your job would for sure be posted on each job board. Turns out, by the way, that they only guarantee distribution, not posting

I would just say make sure you really think about how you are setting up the product. Are you using the roles correctly? Can we automate any processes

Alternatives Considered

Snag

I have used Indeed and Proven for hiring. Indeed is great, but Proven was more for corporate staff. I like Snag because it was developed for part to full-time service industry jobs. It has more people there for my company, where, with others, there are more professional or white-collar jobs/resumes to sort through.

ZipRecruiter

ZipRecruiter compared to Snagajob is a night & day difference. The volume of applicants from ZipRecruiter is much higher and the search tools are more user-friendly. ZipRecruiter also gives you the ability to add more job posts as needed and boost your jobs for clients that need jobs filled immediately. I would definitely go with ZipRecruiter over Snagajob.

Return on Investment

Snag

  • I get my money's worth with Snag. Postings are a fair price.
  • I get really responsive applicants from Snag.
Lacey Davidson profile photo

ZipRecruiter

  • I'd say ZipRecruiter has been an "okay" option for us, and we will likely use them again when we need to, but I think the ROI is minimal. You're more likely to find better applicants by putting in a bit more work in less "trawled" or "crowded" spaces if you really need quality.
  • When we've wanted to interview candidates to understand the talent out there and to refine what we're looking for by talking to people, ZipRecruiter has been great to get volume and have people come through the door for interviews.
