  • Reports of VM problems.
  • Doesn't use Adobe Flash for their management counsel.
  • Spinning up a new VM could not be easier.
  • Converting VM from vSphere to Scale can be a hassle.
  • When selling half rack servers, send Lenovos half rack server rails with it or at least give that as an option for the purchaser.

  • Simplicity is the number one priority for us. It's very simple to spin up a virtual machine and have it up and running quickly.
  • Customer support has been fantastic. When we have an issue, usually Scale contacts us before we even realize there is some sort of issue going on.
  • Setting up and installation has also been very simple. In the past, we tried traditional 3-2-1 virtual infrastructure but having storage, networking, and compute tied together has made it much easier for our IT department to be able to deploy new items in a timely manner.
  • There are times when the alerts can be a little vague if you don't contact customer support to get a clarification of what might be wrong.
  • I would like to see some integrated backup support at some time, and not have to use a third-party agent on each virtual machine.

  • Cost reduction for virtualized workloads.
  • Consolidates storage and networking.
  • Simplifies management of virtual servers.
  • Efficient backup and disaster recovery.
  • The management interface could provide more granular configuration options.
  • Monitoring and alerting for replication and snapshots needs improvement.
  • Need easier quoting capabilities for partners.

  • Scale has reduced the amount of time we spend maintaining host servers.
  • The management interface is simple.
  • We like to be able to seamlessly move servers with very little overhead.
  • The solution lacks support from major backup providers.
  • While it is simple to use, sometimes it would be good to have more powerful tools.
  • Tools should be included to migrate between virtualization solutions. While tools are available, they are at extra cost per virtual machine.

  • Superior Support - US based, easy to understand, quick to respond.
  • All inclusive package when purchased.
  • The Scale interface doesn't seem to have as many options as VMware. Of course I don't use most of these options, but some admin desiring very detailed configs may be disappointed.
  • I would like to see a more granular restore. It's easy to restore full snapshots, but we also use this for a file server, and it's very time consuming to restore just a couple files.

  • High availability is native, automatic, and requires no configuration.
  • Support provided by Scale Computing is top notch. I rarely contact them and when I do the phone calls last less than 10min with resolution and in the case of email support not only is there a quick response but they follow up to make sure everything is going well.
  • Scale’s HC3 product line removes all of the complex aspects of configuring storage and compute that exist in products like Citrix and VMWare at a much higher value. I don’t need engineers on staff to maintain it because it can be truly a set it and forget it configuration. This makes it a much more valuable option for small to midsize company and for large enterprises offers an enormous savings that can’t be ignored.
  • For me personally I’d like to learn more about the API call functionality to increase the hands off options an IT support team could have. (This is more just needing to learn the API’s.)
  • More features in virtual networking perhaps a virtual switching within the system as an option.
  • Hardware trade-in and upgrade path. (This may exist but just something that is starting to be a consideration for us.)

  • Amazing support. Seriously, a skilled team of technicians on the back end that are there to help and aren't reading from a script.
  • Easy GUI and interface.
  • Easy setup.
  • Extremely fast restoration of backups. Minutes not hours.

  • Very easy to use; does not require specialized training.
  • The Disaster Recovery offering (Cloud Unity) works seamlessly.
  • Great customer service.
  • I would like to see continued integration with Microsoft-based networks/systems.
  • I would like to see a more comprehensive interface.
  • I would like to see the ability to create/publish reports and/or export system logs.
  • I would like to see independent file-level restore, in addition to volume-level restore.
  • I would like to see better/easier volume identification when cloning volumes and mounting to other VMs.

  • Lowering cost on virtual licensing.
  • Ease of use.
  • Above average support.
  • Being able to export virtual machines back into VMware without a 3rd party product.
  • The interface should include how much hard drive space is being utilized in a windows environment without having to log into the server.
  • Increase integration into other platforms such as agentless backup solutions. One is in the works with Acronis, but having multiple options would be preferred.

  • Personal one-on-one walk-through hardware installation.
  • Very personal training for our organization (which included recording for review later if we missed or forgot something) with a Scale expert.
  • Ability to use the USB storage devices (for transfer of large quantity of files on USB devices).
  • Ability to use multiple networks (such as a machine that needs access to the LAN and public internet using two different network cards).

  • It has the best platform for virtual server management.
  • Upgrading memory and disk space was a breeze.

  • Incredibly simple deployment and cloning of VM's. Makes managing a very high-tech architecture simple.
  • Auto negotiates SSD disk usage based on requirements and prioritization, maximizing utilization of the faster I/O for disks that need it.
  • Customer Service is great. I think everyone says this (and it was preached to us before and during the sales process) but they really have been great.
  • Simple, simple, simple. We kept asking ourselves "Is it really this easy". Some people need more advanced and complicated feature sets, but for us "simplicity that performs at a high level" is very important for our small IT dept. Managing is a 30mins per week job vs 20 hrs.
  • Offsite backup configuration options are lacking. There is room for improvement here. Full replication to another HC3 is easy, but customized snapshot and full VM export is lacking. We are confident this will be addressed.

  • Scale offers a great dashboard for viewing VM details.
  • Installation of clusters is much simpler than other VM platforms.
  • Console view of VMs is in web browser and clientless, which makes administration from any machine simpler.
  • I would like to see the ability to mount snapshot points in time rather than having to clone a full machine in order to access older data. I believe this is being released in the latest version, but we had a difficult time restoring data without creating a Linux machine and mounting a disk.
  • Import and export of VMs isn't as easy as other platforms. Third party tools had to be used to import VMs. Exporting VMs would require the same time and expense.
  • I would like to see more access to back end disk data rather than relying on support. I know Scale is targeted to shops with smaller IT departments and the support is great, but I had to go through support in order to get a disk list on the cluster when I could have just done that myself.

  • The ability to duplicate a server or spin up a server from an existing snapshot within minutes has saved our organization and the IT department countless hours when we have had a server failure. Simply starting up a snapshot, most users do not even realize there has been an issue and it makes support seamless.
  • Updating is a breeze, you are notified when there is an issue and you follow the directions. The downtime is limited and it doesn't take hours to complete.
  • Customer support is top notch!
  • I am very happy with the product. I wish I could tell you I had cons, but I truly don't. I am very happy with the product, its ease of deployment and the overall experience. I would purchase again.

  • The world's simplest host and storage administration, period.
  • Built-in site-to-site replication for one-click DR.
  • Excellent performance, easily surpassing the "big guys" -- more cost-conscious hardware solutions get the job done just as well, if not better, than top-tier systems using much more expensive hardware.
  • A support experience that cannot be rivaled. Just open a trouble ticket and see for yourself!
  • At-rest encryption currently requires a 3rd-party product.
  • Would really benefit from a user interface or wizard for creating boot media/migrating common hosts to HC3 (maybe options for physical, Hyper-V, VMWare).

  • Customer Support - A level of service that all vendors should strive to reach. Their customer service is equally fast and reliable as the product. In the two years of having the HC3, we experienced one hard drive failure. The support team was assisting us within minutes, had the drive replaced in less than 24 hours, and had our node fully functional with no disruption in service nor any data loss.
  • Migration - One of the quickest and easiest among all VM solutions. Older Windows operating systems had compatibility issues, but all servers running Windows Server 2003 and higher migrated within minutes with two simply clicks.
  • Reliability - The HC3 manages to work seamlessly in real-time with no indication from the end user during maintenance, recovery, or making changes to the VMs. In two years, we have had only one hard drive issue and no software issues.
  • Simplicity - The HC3 has the best of both worlds. It's simpler than the free Hyper-V and includes most tools one needs within VMware, yet the installation, operation, and recovery is leaps and bounds easier to manipulate.
  • The only negative is the maintenance support costs. What a dilemma Scale has as they produced a robust and reliable product yet the support costs for a 3 node system is almost $6000. After paying this for 2 years and only having one hard drive failure, I have spent $12,000 on one support ticket and three software updates. It defeats the maintenance cost savings.
