Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use 8x8 X Series across the organization

Pros and Cons

Simple to set up the initial system
Adding users and activating phones is very easy
Billing can be automatically split based on cost center
Better pricing than other competing cloud phone systems

First level support is not very good

Return on Investment

Costs less than major competitors
X2 license includes Internet faxing
Includes video/audio conferencing with screen sharing

Alternatives Considered

Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Call Manager) and RingCentral

8x8 has a considerably lower upfront cost and is much easier to manage than an in-house VOIP system, such as Cisco UCM.

In my case the subscription cost was less than RingCentral.

Usability

The system is relatively easy to learn and pretty much works as you would expect. The online documentation and training videos are also very good.

Support Rating

First level support is not very good. Reps are often difficult to understand and many times aren't very knowledgeable.

Other Software Used

Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), The Receptionist, Ubiquiti Networks UniFi

If you have some experience with a VOIP phone system and don't require much support, 8x8 can work very well. Their online documentation and training videos are relatively simple and straight forward. However, be prepared for some delays and frustration if you need to utilize 8x8 support.
