Overall Satisfaction with Airtable

Education programs at our cancer research center are using Airtable to plan and organize events, projects, and programs. We are new to using Airtable, but have found that it's incredibly intuitive and easy to learn. Currently, we use it for two purposes: (1) to manage internal projects and "to dos" and (2) to plan programs that serve students and range in length from 2 weeks to 2 months. The Kan Ban and group features are very helpful and popular among staff for our internal projects. The dynamic calendaring and advanced calendaring features are particularly helpful for planning student-serving programs. Airtable helps us manage many moving parts and make changes to our plans in one place.
  • You can see events in many different views (i.e. groups, calendar, table) without having to manually format each view. I can add/edit event data in any view, and have it populate to other views. This helps conceptualize program content and see any gaps or conflicts.
  • It's very easy to link data from one table into another table. It means that I can adapt Airtable as I build in information. I don't have to worry that making changes or additions as needed will fundamentally mess up my database.
  • The calendaring features are amazing. Our whole team loves being able to color code and filter our events. This will allow us to print calendars customized to each audience (i.e. staff vs program participants).
  • I'd like to see the forms capability have more features. For example, with richer forms features, we could use Airtable to solicit and manage applications from individual students who apply to our programs.
  • It might be helpful to have some sort of automated fill in for dates and times. It would be great to have less clicking and scrolling to select dates and times. For example, an end time could auto-populate as an hour after the start...or even if the default start time was 8 am or some reasonable hour.
  • Increased, improved communication among staff. Therefore, the staff spends less time in the dark and less time dedicated to communicating effectively.
  • Increased efficiency for workflow, which leads to higher productivity.
  • A better final product for the audiences we serve, and better accessibility to the information that they need.
Airtable is a modern data management tool. It doesn't bring in baggage from when technology was restricted to your local hard drive like other spreadsheet and database software. I don't have to deal with version control or 100 different files...and then figure out how to share them...while making sure they were editable but not corruptible.
Airtable is great for event management and complex calendaring. It's also great for managing projects with lots of to do's by different people. I'm also considering using it for our participant database. I used to work in inventory management on a farm and can see how great it would be for managing inventory from field to distribution. Airtable is well-suited to managing lots of information vs other software that's more suited to number crunching and calculations (you can still do those things in Airtable...I think).
