Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce

We utilize BigCommerce (BC) as our web platform. I do the overwhelming majority of product development and maintenance across 2000+ product pages with tens of thousands of SKUs. We have a sales staff that enters in large quantity, printing and phone orders. My biggest issue with BC is that we are unable to utilize SQL database which makes exporting/importing a bit more involved than it needs to be. Product and SKU development is excellent however. We came from Volusion, so I've noticed that I can generate far more product pages and SKUs on BC. However, not having the SQL behind this obviously is the trade off.
  • Product Page/SKU Development
  • Built-In Facets
  • Order Statuses are Easy to Read/Respond
  • Tracking Shipments
  • Plug-Ins
  • We've had issues with ShipperHQ and hope that there are more options in the future
  • Page Load Speed
  • Lack of Shipping Plug-In Solutions other than ShipperHQ
  • Our conversion has improved, which is always a plus
  • Streamlined product development has been huge for me
  • We have a decreased AOV, however we're reaching more users
  • The high cost of operating has effected our ROI
We're a drop shipper. We sell safety products. It doesn't apply to everyone. Quite often when we are able to provide large quantity orders, we have difficult time understanding warehouse stock between 40 different vendors. I wouldn't say this has much to do with BC, rather than our business model.
I'm really not sure. I always thought that what was baked into BC wasn't up for modification concerning open API. I know we're currently taking a beating on SEO via Google Reviews - we're getting hit for products that don't have reviews (1600+ pages flagged), so that's not the best integration at the moment.
vs Volusion - better speed, faster development
vs Magento - better speed, more intuitive
vs Shopify - better cost, better support
vs Storenvy - better all around
vs BigCartel - better all around
It's great for companies that have a large, diverse inventory. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has less than 100 products. The cost is a bit concerning though. I don't think the platform is as developer centric ala Magento, but it can appeal to less skilled users.
