Overall Satisfaction with Cloudflare
If you aren't using Cloudflare, you should be. Cloudflare is one of the few companies that seem to think of the solution before you even know it is a problem.
We use Cloudflare to manage our DNS, CDN our web traffic, be a WAP for our applications, manage our DMARC records, provide DDOS protection, and are looking into their Zero Trust network tunnels and we are just barely scratching the surface of their offerings. Their tools are always well thought out, the user interfaces intuitive, and the functionality just works. They are constantly advancing their offerings both existing and expanding in logical directions. Other IT providers should definitely be looking to model their business practices after a company like Cloudflare.

Pros
- Registrar and DNS services are impeccable, with registrations done at cost and without ADs. DNS services setting standards for speed of resolution.
- DDOS protection. With their content distribution network to back them they have the bandwidth and tools to be both proactive and reactive to bad actors.
- WAF - Their Web Application Firewall helps mitigate common site vulnerabilities and has active zero-day protection running for breaking exploits
Cons
- Restricting SSO to enterprise accounts disadvantages smaller organizations using products like Google Workspace
- Immediate ROI on Registrar and DNS hosting while giving a single plane of glass to managing both with domain registrations at cost, and no cost DNS hosting
- WAF helped us move at risk servers/applications into a protected state allowing us to perform remediations at a measured pace and get them done right instead of band aide solutions.
- CDN proxying increase the speed of our website while simultaneously reducing server load.
- DMARC management and report interpretation allow use to identify weak points in our email systems, remediate and move to stricter policies without significantly increasing staff time spent managing it.
Onboarding was so fast and smooth we were left wondering if we had missed something. Their tools for domain migration, DNS management & hosting, and WAF are so polished they did all the heavy lifting, leaving only the testing and verification steps to our team. Our verifications found no gaps in the process. Being able to abandon our old collection of tools performing the same tasks was a welcome relief to our support staff, and the functionality is leaps and bounds ahead of what we had previously.

Using Cloudflare
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Like to use Relatively simple Easy to use Well integrated Consistent Quick to learn Convenient Feel confident using Familiar | None |
- DMARC and SPF record setup wizard is well done, but editing the records afterwards creates duplicates and should be looked at again
- Zero Trust appears robust but feels like a dip into the deep end of the pool to get a proper understanding of how to safely implement it. This is one area where they could guide the setup better, to ensure that clients don't get a false sense of security, as well as a better understanding of the path they should follow.
