We always aim to increase product sales, but where it shines is the lead management and increases growth in prospective customers. Lead scoring and nurture programs help with this.
Compared to Exact Target I really like the organization in Marketo. Everything in one tool and one place.

Learnings & Advice
We’ve been able use the tool in the way we want to use it. Marketo allows a lot of customization and the connect with Salesforce allows for even more power. You also need training. With customization you need a lot of training or something will go wrong. It helps to also join a community of other people working with Marketo to bounce ideas and problems off of.
We used Marketo to create a double opt in process that took into account all the different custom business processes. We were able to account for contracts being in place and also consent through business interactions and business cards. We were able to account for changes in salesforce and push interactions in Marketo.
Invest in people are are working in the tool. Provide them adequate training and invest in a team of Marketo Admins. More than one person doing all activities. Have people that specialize in different aspects of the system. This will help get all you can out of the system and tools.
I have learned so much from the community. And reaching out to the community as much as possible is so important. Not only to learning but growing your skills. This helps understand what’s possible and helps when you’re stuck on a problem and not waste too long on that problem.
I’d recommend getting certified. This really helps you understand the full capabilities of the tool. It forces you to think about things that you’re not doing on a day to day basis. This will help you use the tool for even more things and gives you ideas on what to do next.
