Overall Satisfaction with QuickBase

Our information technology staff uses Quickbase apps for their helpdesk ticketing, documentation management, task management, and project management. We developed a custom app to facilitate quality control for our four call centers.
  • There is a large base of QuickBase applications developed by other customers in a wide range of categories that are readily downloaded and modified to suit our needs.
  • The user interface is intuitive and facilitates easy customization.
  • Reporting is also easily customized and helps much with app and user management.
  • Document files managed via the document management app are downloaded when selected rather than opened. I would rather see them opened with an option to download.
We have been able to quickly deploy at least five apps that we now depend upon.
We haven't researched similar products, but I can say it's much easier to use than Microsoft Access.
QuickBase apps can be developed and/or customized pretty easily by non-technical users, especially if they make use of apps submitted by other users. Someone with Microsoft Excel and/or Access experience can work up more complex apps, and a true programmer with JAVA and SQL experience could probably make some pretty involved apps. A customization can be done in minutes if an app selected from the pool of submitted apps is already pretty close to what you want. A few hours will suffice to create a more involved app from scratch if the requirements don't go beyond the inherent capabilities of QuickBase. If you get into other app integrations or a lot of interfacing then the development time could be pretty high, but you still get so much function in the basic engine that its comparable development time is less.
  • Building and deploying business applications faster
  • Solving a specific business challenge
  • Building and deploying an application (or multiple applications) that meets our exact needs
We have in that we got a HelpDesk application running to support our entire organization, and a task and document management app to support the IT staff. The quality assurance app has been most helpful for our call centers and was a major operational desire for them.
Our task and HelpDesk management apps were customized from submitted apps. They were functional, but awkward until one of our team [members] spent an afternoon customizing them further. He achieved user interfaces that were much improved and that provided reporting info that was very helpful for me.
QuickBase is well-suited for quickly-needed applications where you don't have a lot of time for database development. It can pretty quickly get an application available to a large group of users. Integration with other systems/applications (such as QuickBooks) may be problematic and I'm not sure how well it would work for a large-scale enterprise application.
