Overall Satisfaction with Slack
Slack is being used by the whole organization. It is used to allow communication between all members of the organization and between our developers and project managers and our clients. Slack provides manageable groups to be used however it seems fit and with innumerable add-ons, we haven't found a situation where the tool performs below our expectations. We also use it as a way to integrate our monitoring platform to our client's group and our first responders (We use Centron which is based on Nagios). The Slack administrator must have a good knowledge of the platform and/or a good knowledge of its capabilities and the willingness to learn about it.
Pros
- Communication between members of a team
- Communication with clients
- Send memos
- Making sure must-read messages were in fact read
- Polling
Cons
- Erasing a whole message for non-admin users. Right now, erasing a whole message just crosses the words, we must substitute the old message with something else.
- Options to save favorites Gifs on /Giphy
- Adding personalized Gifs
- Interoperability between different chatting platforms (mostly used by our clients)
- Ease to integrate with different tools used on the day-to-day (or monitoring platform)
- Ease to disseminate information
Slack provides a way to monitor and manage channels and groups, which is not an option on Google Hangouts. However, Slack also allows for the admin to check conversations between 2 people on the company, and there is no way for the 2 people to be aware of that happening, this can be considered an invasion of privacy, but in the end Slack is work tool.
