Overall Satisfaction with Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery
We use it as a backup and disaster recover unit. We have a large variation of once a month to 2hr increments of backing up different servers. The speed in which it backups is incredibly fast. No messing around with storage tapes or rotation. We have hot backups on the appliance, we store cold backups on a spare NAS just because, and we also have storage on the forever cloud with the ability to stand up servers in the cloud. We sit next to a nuclear power plant. If something happens with that place, assuming the surrounding community survives, we'll have our data and can start up where we left off once a new location is found and hardware is put into place. It's not a variable everyone needs to contend with, but I have it in the back of my mind.
- We run VMware and it is almost a set it and forget it process. Ease of management is A+++.
- Time in which to restore a server from start to finish is less than 3 mins. And I mean it's up, running, and functional.
- The reporting is very nice as well. No need to login to see results. A nice report is sent each day.
- If a failure happens (rare), it's not always easy to determine the problem of why, even with the failure logs. Eventually you learn what they mean.
- We've had zero loss of data. Yes people have deleted things , but we always get it back.
- Speed in which it takes save man hours.
- I see no negative impact in our environment.

This was a tape library back in the day. We also couldn't snapshots at the time. I'm sure it's changed since then, but I've been a Unitrends for so long and so happy with it, I haven't had the need to question the backup. Bottom line is, it's reliable.
