The only problem with 12mass may be that it might come accross as spam. Personally, for every 100+ sincere responses that I get, I'm hit by 1 or 2 responses that ask me to stop spamming.The beauty is that if you're paying attention to your dashboard, you see when these things happen, and you can reply yourself to assure the customer that there is a real live human typing out the characters they are reading. I would advise that the person given the 12mass account to handle should be someone who can exercise caution. It is a great tool to leverage on, provided you put thought and effort into your 'canned' responses that are actually useful instead of just blatant advertising/spamming. The latter would not be optimal for you.

Hootsuite Pro

If you're just wading into the world of social monitoring and scheduling and don't want a large investment of time or money, this is a great tool. I consider it a "my first social media management tool." For simple posting, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting, this is a great, inexpensive option.If you're an advanced user and care about analytics being baked in and not piecemeal per report you pay for, then you might be better served looking elsewhere. The cost structure of reporting here by a number of reports and by the number of things you want to measure isn't ideal. I'd rather pay for analytics as a whole and pull whatever I want.

Pros

  • Targets only those users who have a demonstrated/mentioned interest in the solution you are offering
  • Easily allows you to personalise your responses, and provides stats to allow you to track which ones are more popular (higher conversion rates). That way, you quickly know which responses are hitting home; which ones the people care about.
  • The UI is intuitive. In the past 6 months, I've seen the changes made to the layout, and the learning curve is less daunting now.
  • Free 30 day trial. They don't mess around. Try it; if it works, great. If not, ah well.
  • It allows an SME like ours to take on bigger companies with bigger budgets.
  • For me the best thing is bulk scheduling, it takes me just seconds every five or so days to schedule hundreds of tweets!
  • The reports feature allows me to create a regularly published report with various statistics on the health of my Twitter accounts. I can also use this feature to produce content for presentation or to provide to a client a record of the results being achieved.
  • The way updates can be viewed in columns is a great design. It is very customisable and means I can produce a page of columns displaying all mentions and comments, another for all scheduled tweets, one all private messages and many more options of what to have to display at a glance.

Cons

  • Still a bit of lag, but that's compared to super slick interfaces that we usually use like Google LinkedIn and Facebook. I hope they go big soon and can throw more money into their servers so we have a better experience! With the service they provide, I'm usually willing to wait a few extra seconds to reach many extra people.
  • I would prefer the 'Delete' button to be bigger so its easier to quickly remove the unwanted stuff.
  • Maybe different colored backgrounds for their responses? Right now the layout is all in shades of blue and white. While its still easy to navigate, it might be better to have more colors so certain parts stand out more.
  • I use Firefox as my web browser, and there are times when I can't fully see everything I need to see, but that can be fixed by zooming out so it's not the biggest deal.
  • I have the Pro version, not enterprise. I feel like pro is the best value for me. With that being said, I wish I could get some of the cooler features that I'm sure the next level up get. I have very low overhead for my business, I don't pay for a lot. So me paying for this program is a pretty big deal. There are times I wish I had more. I tried to build a custom report, but found out it was going to charge me extra for it, so I didn't follow through with it.
  • Analytics wise I wish it would give me more. I'm not sure if there are more analytical options available to the next paid level up. I would really love to be able to do more streams of trends and account activity, and again make reporting easier. To show one of my clients monthly reports, I give them exported PDFs of Google Analytics and also a spreadsheet that I make from Facebook insights. It would be SO ideal if I could make a nice report in HootSuite that covered all of the platforms, especially those that don't provide analytics themselves, like Google+ and Twitter.
  • To elaborate on the stream of trends, right now I can set up queries, for example on my personal account I have a saved Twitter search where I have a feed of the keywords "free screening" and "Seattle" so I can find free movie screenings in my area. Great life hack. I but for my Physical Therapy client for example I wish I could have a stream that showed me related keywords that were hot at the moment, popular articles for the industry, that kind of thing. I'm not sure if competitors to HootSuite provide that kind of insight, but it would be ideal for me.

It's an automatic renew so there's no reason I would have to worry about this. For all the functionality I get, $10 a month is a steal. I am considering upgrading for a month so that I can do their online training program, Hootsuite University, where I can earn a certificate and be listed on their site as an expert in the program. I have inquired about this, and I could earn the certificate and then switch back to my pro account. I think the whole learning program and certificate is a very awesome thing for them to do. I see myself continuing this until I am not working in this industry anymore - and I don't see that happening anytime soon because I'm just getting started

Hootsuite does not encompass Google +Hootlet the Chrome widget does not always work as it should (there is a technical bug with it which has been partially fixed but it still occurs from time to time).Otherwise good.

Gliches have made it a bit of a bind, particularly when you just want to 'click and send' a web article after you have read it - and then you have to deal with support (a great team but not always able to solve the problems with the gliches). Gliches with it loading properly, gliches with 'double ups in FB on the posts (the personal page and the business page if both clicked will lead to 2 lots of postings to each page!)

Hootsuite makes passing on articles from the web very easy- when it works! I have had a number of gliches with Chrome where it does not open properly and the solution (after some toing and froing with support) was to uninstall and reinstall. The support staff are always very helpful (which is great!) but the gliches..... well, they suck when you are already busy!

Alternatives Considered

We selected 12mass because they responsed to our queries readily, and understood our concerns. The CEO (Agmon) doesn't waste time or effort, and got down to the brass tacks during our discussions. Even today, if there is an issue, the team is quick and reliable in responding
We've been using HootSuite since the advent of such tools and frankly, haven't looked at these other tools for a few years. SO, it is possible that we'd like one better. With that written, we are comfortable enough and satisfied enough with HootSuite to continue to use it and not be concerned about a full re-evaluation yet. Part of that is due to constant updates from Hootsuite.

Return on Investment

  • Better customer service. One example I like to use is that there was a miscommunication, and the customer put it up on Twitter (presumably because he thought an email wouldn't be helpful, or he wanted to get a few laughs). 12mass filtered his post out and brought it to our attention, so we were able to email him straightaway and quickly remedy it.
  • Better ROI. We have seen direct conversions from click throughs on responses generated by 12mass sent out at optimised times.
  • Maybe on a smaller note, its a morale booster. To know that we are using something that is still new, that works so well. Motivates the team to work harder because we are part of a change; a new way of marketing.
  • Hootsuite Pro provides a great return on investment. Without it, we wouldn't be able to send out some messages exactly when they need to go out without difficulty. We can also pre-schedule a lot of messages, which saves time overall.
  • Because Hootsuite Pro is so easy to use, we can have experienced account managers draft the content and then train other workers to simply schedule it for the appropriate time, allowing account managers to focus on other client work.
