We were using another VoIP service before and we constantly have to restart meetings due to sound quality. After 2 hours of conferences, the sound would completely go out and you couldn't understand anyone.

After switching over to 8x8, that never happens. 4-5 hour calls are now bearable.

Evolve IP - IP Phone Systems

For small locations, it's perfect but maybe not for larger locations with more then 50 people. It would depend on your bandwidth availability and what type of redundancy you have in place.

Pros

  • Conferencing is less laggy
  • Sound quality is improved
  • Call bandwidth is fantastic.

  • EvolveIP has excellent customer service. Their support personnel are very knowledgeable and response time is excellent.
  • The quality of the service that EvolveIP provides has been a big plus for us. Uptime has been at a very high level over the years that we've been with them and we have never had any issues with call quality.
  • The Phone System product is just a part of the stable of products that EvolveIP offers and they seem to be constantly finding new ways to innovate within the communications space in terms of offerings for UC, integration with our CRM platform, etc.

Cons

  • Outdated UI. Aesthetically, 8x8 is not overly impressive. If you told me nothing about the software and only showed me some screenshots, I might venture to guess that it's a software from the mid 90s.
  • Lacking intuitive UX. I'm someone that typically picks up a software very fast. When I first started with 8x8, I recall stumbling through my first couple of weeks of interaction. That tells me that the UX could use some work.

  • More included features in the more expensive monthly service offering

Alternatives Considered

GFI Faxmaker/Mail Essentials 14 is more reliable and has better customer support than using the Cisco SPA-122 and Cisco SPA-8000 devices with 8x8, when you send out 200-500 faxes daily. 8x8 costs significantly less than GFI Faxmaker/Mail Essentials 14

Service and cost of entry is what led us to our decision. Some of the others have better reporting. but EIP has the lowest cost of entry.

Return on Investment

  • The impact on my business was a positive one. I was trying to operate with 2 cell phones and it just wasn't working. I needed a desk phone and a number that would stay the same for the business. I can also add more lines as we grow and they can be anywhere with an internet connection. As a small business, I work primarily out of my home office and my employees can do the same with this system.
