Act-On

If you have an existing CRM system, like Microsoft 365, you can integrate campaign automation with Act-On, and then it is worth most of the time it takes to get less-experienced employees on-boarded. In other cases that require more minimal use, the on-boarding may be too lengthy. In that case, it may be better-suited to choose a different SaaS that tracks campaign, ROI, lead scoring, etc.

DataFox

I would definitely recommend DataFox to any sales team that wants their prospecting to be improved. If a company has trouble finding companies that fit their customer segments, then DataFox can probably solve that issue. I took 2 points off and gave an 8/10 because of the inaccuracy that is sometimes encountered in the lists generated and in the employee count.

Pros

  • Customer service. Act-on is the leader in client support for training, basic tips and trouble shooting to planning our Act-On strategy. The Act-On team is flexible, friendly, engaged and collaborative.
  • Act-On does not over-complicate its offering. It is visually appealing and intuitive. Some platforms are just too complicated to keep on top of. We are a small team with a busy marketing schedule. We do not depend a great deal on online lead generation for our growth, however Act-On is still a good fit for us.
  • Trust. No surprises once we had signed our agreement. In fact, our expectations were exceeded.
  • Value - price for service.

Cons

  • Being able to attach images to social posts
  • More contemporary templates
Sue Maldonado profile photo
  • The user interfaces despite being easy to use lacks in certain functionalities. For example insights tab isn't available while viewing a conference list and has to be saved to a static list and viewed.
  • Data for smaller companies can be stale sometimes (not refreshed in more than a year sometimes)
  • Geographical divisions of companies are treated as a single entity. For example, if I'm looking to target US companies, organizations like Accenture and Samsung do not pop up even though they have a sizable presence in the US as they are headquartered in Dublin and Korea respectively

Since we start using Act-on for ourselves and our clients, we have been supported very well. Often we need to integrate with legacy systems and we find the support team on our side during the whole endeavor. Always asking if they can help us further, always willing to do a better job. The support of Act-On is one of the main differentiators

Their training documentation and videos are very good, I had no problem integrating my instance with Salesforce, Litmus, Google Analytics, and others. Created a subdomain easily, and I was using the email system within the first day

It went well so no complaints. I do believe that we would have benefited from a third party partner to lean on in some cases

Alternatives Considered

HubSpot - Great templates for email and landing pages. Fantastic for targeted content if you have a large amount of content. Free CMS. Very good sales people promise a lot. But for our test experience, the service support did not stand up to Act-On. And our HubSpot testing indicated that costs would be hard to control as the help desk was of little help with basic problems - always handing us over to consultants who charge for support. The free CMS seemed like a no-brainer in comparisons but we became concerned that if we used HubSpot as our CMS, we may struggle to disentangle ourselves if we needed to in the future. Act-On is not as sophisticated as HubSpot. But for support - which you will need unless you are an experienced platform user - it is critical to our success. It also comes down to how much time you have to learn the system you have chosen - you only get out what you put in. Act-On is simpler and a better fit for our smaller team

DataFox has a very simple to use interface and has great coverage across our ICP. DataFox yielded the highest match rate on the data diagnostic tests indicating that they had great potential in expanding our addressable market. For the kind of functionality, DataFox is much more cost-effective than the other solutions

Return on Investment

  • Quality of communication
  • Understanding of who is engaging with our communications
  • Better guidance around comms optimized for SEO and engagement
  • Removes the headache of admin around webinars, events, and demos

  • I don't have hard ROI numbers for it, but say the use case was using DataFox vs. googling everything yourself: I estimate that the average user would need to spend 1-2 hours assembling data points from: LinkedIn, company webpage/investor relations, press releases, etc & would likely only come up with 50-75% of the content available on DataFox that could have been on your page immediately in searching the company name.
  • Take my example from above and keeping in mind the related keywords/specialties point I mentioned earlier (DataFox highlighting similar companies). I've been on projects where we: took a company/keywords we liked --> exported from DataFox 15-20+ columns of information on 400+ companies that we could then filter down manually or use filter options based on results that DataFox gave us. This process without DataFox is heartbreaking to think of - what me & a team of 4 others did in a week (~200 hours) to reach a clean C-level caliber report would have taken someone without DataFox easily 500+ hours & there is no telling that this individual would have been able to find all the companies that DataFox led us to.
  • Best ROI is analyst time spend
