- Dream big - ask for all system features you've dreamed about. You might be surprised what Ascentis Payroll can do for you.- The system is user-friendly and has features to make payroll departments more efficient. (i.e. Garnishment/Third Party Check module)- Ascentis interfaces with our in-house systems was seamless (HRIS, Time, GL, etc.). Exports to third party vendors easy as well (401(k), FSA, etc.)- If you will be utilizing Ascentis for multiple modules, then understand via system demonstration how the modules work together (i.e. HRIS, Time, Payroll). Ensure there are no gaps or additional considerations to address during assessment/implementation phases.

I would definitely encourage positioning Fusion as a true system of record, while integrating local payroll using a stable and powerful middleware. Fusion is well suited for core HR data, performance management, and compensation. Recruitment and onboarding would well run on Taleo. I would not recommend a scenario where performance management is still on Taleo.

  • The benefits open enrollment worked great for us. Employees are able to see all the different options, compare plans, and calculate their monthly premiums as they sign up.
  • The self service portal uses widgets that can be customized. We are able to keep employee updated with any changes.
  • The report wizard is easy to use. We are able to create reports for any business question.

Cons

  • Moving from one employee to another in the Employee Manager is a bit cumbersome.
  • Moving from remote desktop to a web-based entry point would be nice.
  • It would be nice to have all employee info in one place.

Nothing against Ascentis, but we have outgrown this system far faster than anticipated. Our company has nearly doubled in size from when we first implemented. It has been an excellent starter HRIS but we just need to add additional functionality.Some of the features we are looking for is ability to pull data and build reports. Ascentis really lags in that category. Also looking to add additional functionality such as performance management and payroll - Ascentis offers these, but not in a fully integrated fashion that would really help.

The rating of 5 was provided as I am not a decision maker in the organization with regards to the selection of vendor tools, that being said if I were in a decision making capacity in the organization; TALEO would be my choice for the following reasons:1) Ease of use2) Ease to train new employees on the use of the product3) Great customization options4) Ability to integrate with other enterprise applications

As a user of the software for less than a year, we still have much to learn. There are many areas of the software that we are just not completely comfortable with yet. Still much to learn. Several of our employees will be attending the Ascentis training in May, and we are really looking forward to learning more.

Oracle has an excellent support model. The challenge is in adopting this support model and making traditional IT and non-mature system administrators use this model. In combination with the Oracle Cloud (client) Community, the support is excellent.

In-Person Training

First, to clarify our "in-person" training was done mainly through Web-X meetings and conference calls. It was the closest thing we got to as far as an "in-person" training for this software. However, for the large majority of it, this type of training worked out well. We were able to share our screens and the trainer was able to share his/her screen. We could follow along with what we were doing in our database in real time and see how different functions worked and how manipulating our information could produce different results. It was also nice in that it provided for real-time results if something hadn't been coded correctly or we were having issues as to why something wasn't working the way we thought it should be. However, it did have some downsides in that we often had to rely on a conference phone and that made it difficult to hear people on both sides. Also, sometimes the trainers had internet difficulties when working from home and that caused issues with the WebX meetings.

Online Training

Ascentis HR has a number of online training videos to watch on a number of different topics. I gave it a lower rating because there is not much interactivity with the videos and it seems to cater to really only one or two learning styles. Plus, one has to be pretty motivated to go to a separate area to access the videos and then pull up a specific one to watch it and then learn. From my experience, people know that they are there, many just don't take the time and effort to go find them and actually watch them - especially since the username and password are different from their normal username and password.

Don't skip steps. The customer support for Ascentis HR left it up to us how far we wanted to go with implementation of benefits for example. I was very glad that I elected to go into the detail implementation that I did rather than just doing the basics and waiting until later to complete the process.

There is a lot of potential on Fusion. We have reaped about 10% of potential benefits. Especially on Workforce Intelligence, the opportunities are huge. The reason why we do not use the solution at its full potential is not in the product (which is simple and transparent). A roadmap is under construction to bring more of its potential to the end user.
