There are no deal breakers with Ascentis in my opinion. The system is very flexible and allows for work arounds where limitations exist.Update: In the last year and a half Ascentis has been unable to provide electronic transmittal of benefit information through their system in a timely, accurate and/or consistent manner. This is a key component of any HRIS in my opinion and the failure to provide this feature (which we are paying for) has been a very large disadvantage for our company. If a timely, accurate and consistent automatic transmittal of benefit information to benefit plan providers is important to your organization, I would not recommend Ascentis at this time.

Pros
- Streamlining benefits administration - Ascentis creates a one-stop-shop. Simply enter your employee's information into Ascentis and they communicate with the benefits companies. No need to duplicate data entry.
- Reporting module - the reporting module in HR is fantastic. Very easy to use and create reports on the fly.
- The Payroll product is also very nice. We don't have a lot of issues like we had with previous providers.
- Customer Service is quick and knowledgable.

- The Time module could improve greatly. That is the one area that frustrates me the most. The system lags horribly on busy days . They could also add some more customizable features such as the abiliy to manipulate shift differentials/shift rules a bit more to the customer's liking.

I am now associated with a smaller organization that doesn't necessarily need the horsepower Taleo brings to the table in their Enterprise edition. There may be an opportunity to utilize their Business edition, but my current employer isn't a position to make a change at this time.

With most issues, Ascentis support is very responsive and helpful, however when the issue is one that requires technical review and/or support, there is rarely any follow-up or response. The issues with the electronic transmittal of benefit information to carriers was one that after 1.5 years has yet to be resolved and follow-up from Ascentis on the status has been minimal. I have only receive information after repeated complaints were filed and escalated to top management.

Oracle has an excellent support model. The challenge is in adopting this support model and making traditional IT and non-mature system administrators use this model. In combination with the Oracle Cloud (client) Community, the support is excellent.

In-Person Training

First, to clarify our "in-person" training was done mainly through Web-X meetings and conference calls. It was the closest thing we got to as far as an "in-person" training for this software. However, for the large majority of it, this type of training worked out well. We were able to share our screens and the trainer was able to share his/her screen. We could follow along with what we were doing in our database in real time and see how different functions worked and how manipulating our information could produce different results. It was also nice in that it provided for real-time results if something hadn't been coded correctly or we were having issues as to why something wasn't working the way we thought it should be. However, it did have some downsides in that we often had to rely on a conference phone and that made it difficult to hear people on both sides. Also, sometimes the trainers had internet difficulties when working from home and that caused issues with the WebX meetings.

Online Training

Ascentis HR has a number of online training videos to watch on a number of different topics. I gave it a lower rating because there is not much interactivity with the videos and it seems to cater to really only one or two learning styles. Plus, one has to be pretty motivated to go to a separate area to access the videos and then pull up a specific one to watch it and then learn. From my experience, people know that they are there, many just don't take the time and effort to go find them and actually watch them - especially since the username and password are different from their normal username and password.

Don't skip steps. The customer support for Ascentis HR left it up to us how far we wanted to go with implementation of benefits for example. I was very glad that I elected to go into the detail implementation that I did rather than just doing the basics and waiting until later to complete the process.

There is a lot of potential on Fusion. We have reaped about 10% of potential benefits. Especially on Workforce Intelligence, the opportunities are huge. The reason why we do not use the solution at its full potential is not in the product (which is simple and transparent). A roadmap is under construction to bring more of its potential to the end user.

We previously used SAP which while much less intuitive to use, it was a far more robust system. Before selecting Ascentis we look at ADP and Paychex. Ascentis is all in one and the support and account managers are genuine people. The ESS portal and ease of use were big selling features.
