ShipStation is an order fulfillment and inventory management web-based shipping software designed for eCommerce businesses. I do not see how this is suited for anyone needing to track inventory coming in and going out. FIFO is completely unusable because the system can handle price changes from suppliers. The price change is applied to all past sales orders and items even if they are no longer in stock. In the Con examples I gave [below] you can see how many problems we have had with this system.
I do - and have - recommended them to other businesses. If they had taken care of the USPS pickup option and started supporting Rollo printers again I would have given them a 10. But a year with no resolution is unacceptable. Everything else about them is excellent. When I do have issues I'm usually able to contact someone via live chat and get it resolved. They are glitchy on occasion, but what piece of modern technology isn't.
The sales orders get "lost" in the system. This makes it so we are unable to issue them to take the items out of stock.
The FIFO option does not work and has never worked in the year we have used the program.
When price changes occur the system changes all the past sales orders to reflect the price change. this makes balancing the $ of inventory a nightmare.
Items that have issued before become unavailable to issue because of system hiccups.
The inventory count never matches the physical count because of system hiccups with issuing items.
System unusable for tracking actual inventory counts.
If the item has to be moved to a different inventory location (shelf change) the system crashes and deletes the entire history of the product.
Customer Service for BarCloud is left to be desired. They take weeks to get back to you about a problem and even then their answer is always we are not sure why the system it is doing that.
The price is unimaginably high for the product service and problems that the system has.
All of our Sales orders from 2016 to now have been undone. This caused us to show in BarCloud that our stock contains everything we ordered for the entire year and we have sold $0.
For years users have requested UPS End of Day Report for Driver to Scan. Shipstation Refuses to offer this and it means that Claims with the carrier are next to impossible to process as there is no PROOF the carrier received your package.
Customer Service is Seriously Lacking within the last 6-12 months. Repeated outages, problems, and their front-tier support has no insight as to how long the system will be down. Poor Response times for even the most basic of issues such as error logs so our cart can troubleshoot from their end.
The Status Page is inaccurate. 5 of the last 6 times when we had major issues their status page shows as 100%. Not a reliable gauge of up-time.
If you take some time to learn what all the options and features of ShipStation do, it will save you time, energy and headaches as the system works for domestic orders and international orders for export. You have the ability to adjust info that auto populates into the customs forms for exporting goods and ShipStation solidly integrates with BigCommerce (outside of my previously disclosed web browser issue which could be the browser's fault)
I have quarterly calls with my account rep to discuss metrics and performance to ensure we are remaining consistent without fulfillment and transit times. He is super friendly and knowledgable. Whenever I have questions, if he can't answer them himself, he gets me in contact with the appropriate person almost immediately.
We select ShipStation for our store and for clients' stores as an easy way to get accurate shipping rates for national orders. ShipStation is easy to integrate into the Shopify and Big Commerce store platforms, free app, 1 click install, easy set-up and clients like the easy to use interface to do their shipping for accuracy.
We have had 0 return on investment and we are currently switching to a different inventory system. BarCloud has caused us to lose money from all the hours we have had to spend fixing the inventory count and having to do physical counts every week to know what we actually have on hand.
Caused more headaches than help.
Positive point: We learned that the more expensive system that is web based does not mean they are a better program or will have better customer service.
