Webgility is perfect for companies that have an online retail store as well as those that use any multi-channels to sell their products such as Amazon.

NetSuite

I am a huge advocate for NetSuite, because the system is user-friendly (after a little training) and because it is so customizable. I would recommend NetSuite to any business with more than one company and especially businesses with companies based in more than one country. Small, medium and large companies can leverage the NetSuite platform to suit their needs, whether simple or complex.NetSuite has a number of taxation features that can help to automate return filings, so any business looking to systematize certain tax areas will find the system very useful.NetSuite allows great transparency across an organization and adopts a "one source of truth" methodology. If you have Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Sales, Operations, etc. all working in the same platform and working with the same data, there is less room for data discrepancies and more reliance can be placed upon the system outputs. If a business has a disconnect between Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Sales, Operations, etc. NetSuite will allow that business to come together and automate processes within a single system. There is no need for external system connectors, saving the business time (maintaining the connections) and money (saving on subscription fees to third-party connector vendors).

Pros

  • Ensures 100% accuracy when downloading customer provided data
  • Quick sync to our Quickbooks accounting software
  • Allows us to work in a hosted environment
Mark Testere profile photo
  • NetSuite OneWorld allows a business to automate its intercompany elimination processes at month's end. If set up and maintained correctly, the system can fully automate this process, which for many businesses involves a lot of manual work (in Excel!)
  • NetSuite's audit trail throughout the system is outstanding, tracking changes by user, change type, date/time. You can easily see who made which edits to the database and when. This is often lost or non-existent in other platforms.
  • NetSuite is highly customizable to your business' requirements. Through specific modules, SuiteFlow and SuiteScript, the possibilities are almost endless, but what is great about NetSuite is that the standard functionality is suitable for many businesses.

Cons

  • Initial set up can be a bit confusing, and not very intuitive for new users
Mark Testere profile photo
  • User Interface & Experience
  • Reporting - specifically data visualization
  • Modeling - building in assumptions and forecasting tools

NetSuite is the best business system I've used, and on many levels: Simple, intuitive web interface; great search and reporting tools; full access from any browser; fast response times; no servers to maintain; seamless upgrades; great third-party integrated applications; API's to other systems; and easily customizable to meet very unique business needs. We continue to find new ways to use its capabilities to meet our needs, and have many modules still to implement to improve our business (e.g., e-commerce). As NetSuite and its partners expand their product offerings, it becomes a more complete solution yet for all of our business needs. Service and support has been very good. We just renewed for another three years.

Overall NetSuite is very intuitive. Usability is the direct product of a proper implementation - the way you configure form layouts, add fields, assign permissions and develop workflows.

We avoid using them at all costs, literally, I spend upwards fo $250/hr to have professionals review my concerns. Only when a product defect is uncovered to we report it to support.

We initially tried to have NetSuite implement but we did not have a lot of success. They didn’t want to put in all of our historical sales order data, and at the time, we had a lot of 3-5 yr contracts that would have been on a spreadsheet.

We hired a contractor called Jim Gamble to come in house and help with the implementation . Jim now works at BridgePoint Consulting. I would recommend him. He had an accounting background and understand systems. The NetSuite consultants didn’t understand our revenue model and how it worked. Jim did.

With the initial NetSuite team, we not satisfied at all. With Jim, we were very satisfied. One of the downfalls with NetSuite is that they had in their mind how it needs to be implemented, but didn’t take into account our considerations. At the time, their customers were much younger than us and didn’t have historical data. They also worked with companies that did one year contracts. They had no do desire to listen to our facts. With 800-900 customers with multi-year contracts, we would have been maintaining spreadsheets for numerous years. They weren’t willing at all to work with our specific situation. I understand they have best practices, but sometimes those best practices don’t fit the client. They didn’t have any out of the box thinking – very prescribed implementation

Alternatives Considered

I did not find any other solution available for our need.

Netsuite is much more generic than AMB, and can be applied to many different companies across any industry. AMB is meant specifically for Mortgage companies, so they have much more specified reporting and tools. Adaptive is fantastic for budgeting and forecasting, but is not designed to handle GL level details and vendor/billing information the same way NetSuite is. Luckily, the two tools integrate extremely well, so we are able to import our actual financial data from NetSuite over to Adaptive every monthly with relatively little hassle. I have used IBM Cognos in the past as well, but this was more for reporting. While NetSuite has the reporting capabilities, I would say that it's main purpose is as a transaction-level tool for accounting, and reporting demands can be met more easily with other tools.

We have been able to scale our business 25X without any major overhaul with Netsuite. Its dashboard setup makes onboarding new employees very easy and allows data to be shared across multiple offices. Its cloud setup does not put any pressure on IT to scale servers or other infrastructure. We have been able to become much more efficient in all aspects of the business.

Return on Investment

  • There is an on-going monthly fee, but our company finds it is well worth it for both the support we recieve as well as the time saved by not manually entering orders into out accounting software from our online store.
  • The biggest ROI is absolutely time saved in entering orders.
Ashley Kumbier, CPA profile photo
  • Netsuite has allowed us, through native functionality along with customizations, to create sophisticated rules that apply to our business. Things like approvals, order routing, alerts, and custom workflows have dramatically improved our business.
