Good solid RMM with some small areas for improvement

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Kaseya VSA is used to monitor the endpoints across our network and provide remote support from our central IT team. It is used globally internally by our team, with a number of profiles & automations configured to address common issues where possible. It's also used to monitor and alert on key things such as services running.

  • The server reliability recently has been poor.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Kaseya VSA to manage workstation/server endpoint software, updates, reboot cycles, and use it for remote connectivity - interactive desktop/files. We've also found great value is VSA's ability to update/manage/deploy applications very quickly and seamlessly using pre-defined application lists. However, one of the best features is the ability to execute remote commands - powershell or Windows CMD, quietly, remotely. This is a very powerful feature to use, especially when troubleshooting.

  • Remote command line options

Cons

  • The interface can be a little sluggish at times
  • There is no option that I've seen to connect to an IdP
  • We've seen occasional double entries of agents, there doesn't appear to be any mechanism to prevent this.

Pros

  • Being able to see systems that are not within the local network allows us to be able to troubleshoot and work with the end users no matter where they are or where we are as it is cloud based.
  • Several functions can be "automated" so staff do not have to keep going back and scanning for updates, push Windows updates and or push sensor updates.
  • VSA offers a variety of system information about all of the assets that have the endpoints installed on them so we can easily see the system specs without having to actually connect to them and pull up the SysInfo on each unit.

Cons

  • Being that so much is offered within the VSA package it is a bit overwhelming and could have a better GUI. The option of a "Basic" or "Advanced" GUI would be nice as it could help direct the beginners where they need to go while advanced users may know where they need to navigate to in order to find the settings they are looking for.
  • From the navigation lists there is a area called "Patch Management"...so you would think that is where you would go to manage patches but that is not the case. Patches are managed from within the "Software Management" section. Naming of some of the navigational items should either be condensed or renamed to give the end user a better idea of what is done in that area.
  • This is not directly related to VSA but since I use several of other packages by Kaseya it would be nice if all were accessible under one portal instead of each on their own. I have spoken with Kaseya and they state that it is in the works.

Return on Investment

  • VSA has allowed the IT department to be able to work from home instead of having to be in the office 5 days a week.
  • The reduction on travel times and expenses has greatly be reduced.
  • Being able to have remote connectivity and patch/software management in the same package has allowed us to save money by not having to pay for a separate package to perform those tasks.

  • Easy to create and run procedures on multiple systems simultaneously

Cons

  • The UI is very dated
  • Support is tough to get a hold of quickly
  • Support for more antivirus vendors within the VSA would be nice
  • Agents fail frequently which creates false-positive offline alerts

Return on Investment

  • Kaseya VSA is a bit on the pricey side, but will save you countless man-hours in the log run. It is very helpful to be able to quickly connect to a system to troubleshoot.
  • The ability to manage your RMM and Antivirus within a single-pane of glass saves a lot of time that could be better user by technicians.
  • The ability to monitor for predictive hard disk failures, hard drives low on space, and and a slew of other things will save money over time.

Pros

  • Automation of common tasks through procedures that can be scheduled or triggered
  • Remote control of systems in a secure manner
  • Integration with a number of applications that add functionality to the base product
  • Works well in co-managed IT environments

Cons

  • Requires an investment of time to learn to use many of the product's features
  • No way to hide or remove modules that are not used by our organization
  • Over time, the application can become bloated with older, out of date, values, procedures, and settings. These require some time and effort to clean out.

Return on Investment

  • Kaseya VSA's automation has allowed more client support with fewer technicians, resulting in a cost saving for us.
  • The broad range of features differentiates us from much of our competition. We've won quite a few deals as a result of the services we can provide.
  • The learning curve for new hires limits their effectiveness until they master the application.
