What is Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365?

Veeam® Backup for Microsoft 365  aims to eliminate the risk of losing access and control over Microsoft 365 data including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Teams – so that data is always protected and accessible. Veeam can securely backup Microsoft 365 to any location, including on premises, a hyperscale cloud, or a service provider and:

  • Protects Microsoft 365 data from accidental deletion, security threats and retention policy gaps
  • Quickly restores individual Microsoft 365 email, files and sites with recovery flexibility
  • Meet legal and compliance requirements with eDiscovery of Microsoft 365 items

NEW in Version 7: Advanced monitoring and reporting through an integration with Veeam ONE v12. This is available as a separate installation and comes at no additional cost to Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 customers. V7 also includes: Backup copy between ANY object storage systems with immutability for ransomware protection, and Microsoft Teams support for self-service restores via the Restore Portal.

While the interface can be complex, once you understand it and all the options, getting the data that you need is always a very rewarding experience. Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 is super simple to use:
  1. Install
  2. Hook to 365
  3. Select what to backup
  4. Done
It couldn’t be any more simple to use but it can do lots more stuff as well. The API is very useful. We have a Grafana dashboard hooked up to the data pulled from the API as well to give us more visability.

We have experienced most productive digital transformation since we deployed this platform. Both cloud and on-premise data backup tools have served excellently without any challenge on data management. Safeguarding Microsoft 365 data has been great achievement that has prevented confidential information from leaking. This product has been productive ever and has been corresponding positively to data storage requests. There are no cases of data fraud since we deployed this application.

Simple to setup and use. Implementation was so quick and easy and everything just happens in the background so there is no impact on the user experience. Our administrators have been able to recover a missing email and file quickly and with multiple options for recovery points. I can't imagine anything being any better or easier to use.

There are easier backup solutions, which cost FAR less. Look around and be absolutely sure before buying. It's expensive.

I would rate it an 8. I would like the ability to be able to back up to more types of storage and maybe have some more options when backing the data, such as splitting up backups or different types of data in a more understandable way. However, it does a great job and we haven't had any issues with it at all.

It's a very simple program that does exactly what we need it to do. We can back up our cloud data to an onsite NAS with no issues. It runs seamlessly on a 2 hour schedule and reports, via email, if there are any issues. I only wish that it would back up our public folders.

Lost points because of requirement to use remote connection to backup server, in our case Azure bastion. Also the model for licensing / objects per proxy isn't clear and become problematic for us as we have over 25000 users.
