Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the product to backup our Microsoft 365 tenant that consists of user mailbox, Teams, and Sharepoint data.

Pros and Cons

Backups are easy to create.
Restoring from backup is intuitive.
Once the initial backup is complete, it only takes a few minutes to incrementally backup.

Our biggest issues is that it won't back up public folders. My understanding is that they're working to fix this, but it is currently not working.

Return on Investment

As this is our first foray into backing up cloud data, I'm very impressed at how well it works.

Veeam for Microsoft Office 365 Needs Assessment

Backups are critical for us. We knew as we transitioned from on-premises Exchange to the cloud we would need to find a product that could backup and protect our data. After a bit of research we decided that Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 looked like the best option, and we are very happy with our choice.

Usability

It's a very simple program that does exactly what we need it to do. We can back up our cloud data to an onsite NAS with no issues. It runs seamlessly on a 2 hour schedule and reports, via email, if there are any issues. I only wish that it would back up our public folders.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Data Access

Thankfully, we've not had a reason to restore anything from backup. However, as part of our policy, we do recovery tests to make sure we can recover from a backup if needed. We've tested restoring sharepoint data and mailbox data. Recovering is simple and accurate. We've recovered mail directly to a mailbox and also to a secondary location. Both worked flawlessly.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Restore Flexibility

We have tested restoring directly to the Office 365 mailbox, attach and send, and also a PST. All of these work as expected and are all very easy to do.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Favorite Features

My favorite feature is the ease of using Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. Setting up the backup was easy with the online guide. All mailboxes were automatically added to the backup set as we migrated our mailboxes to the cloud over time. Our restoration testing was also easy to do, and worked as we expected.

Likelihood to Recommend

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is easy to implement and maintain. It runs flawlessly and has never caused an issue, or missed a scheduled backup. Restoring mail and files is very easy and smooth. Unfortunately, it can't back up public folders, which is something we still use for shared address books and calendars. I'm hopeful they will improve on this soon.
