Overall Satisfaction with BigCommerce

We are utilizing BigCommerce for our e-commerce websites. We have 4 in total, including our company website as well as a few we manage for customers. The main business problem it addresses is our ability to sell our products online and streamline our order taking process. It also allows customers to view all the products we offer.
  • Website designs vary widely but all look professional
  • Dashboard and reporting is good
  • Support doesn't always seem equipped to answer your questions, I have been passed from person to person a few times trying to get an answer
  • There has been several instances of downtime within the past month to 2 months
  • It has allowed us to take orders online and freed up our sales staff to do more.
  • Updates to the site have caused a financial impact because we have customizations on our site, so when things get updated we have to have changes made to sustain our functionality.
I haven't found that importing or exporting data comes very clean. To me, the ability to add additional products and build additional sites with ease is a part of scalability. On top of that, we have customizations that BigCommerce doesn't provide out of the box so we continuously have to maintenance those ourselves.
We utilize the open API to connect with our ERP. This allows our internal staff to have a more positive order taking experience. Outside of that, we don't connect with many integrations. Each integration adds additional costs to the monthly bill and we haven't had the resources to look into the potential ROI for each option.
We haven't used the other platforms for a site yet, we have only evaluated them as a potential next step. In our evaluations, we have found that BigCommerce has a lower price point than Shopify seems to have for the same level of functionality. As far as the layouts/templates, they all seem to have a professional look that would work for us.
BigCommerce is a good option if you don't need the flexibility to use custom coding or advanced features. These things are possible, but if you don't have the resources to dedicate someone to watch and make sure that everything is sustained as updates are made then you could be financially hit from time to time with no warning.
