Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

I'm a healthcare provider working in a private practice setting in which I am the sole owner. My focus most days is on the clinical nature of my day-to-day job, and while recordkeeping and knowledge-sharing are important in the heavily regulated industry I work in, I could not justify spending more on the document management software I use for administrative duties than I do on the specialized clinical software that allows me to monitor and provide for the patients in my care. I also need to be able to access and manage my files far into the future, so a subscription model just did not feel appropriate for me.
  • Search & redact.
  • DocuSign integration.
  • Document assembly.
  • "Split" function is not very easy to use.
  • UI could be more user-friendly.
  • Make it easier to integrate with other software (Dropbox, Google Workspace, etc.).
  • Organization of File Storage.
  • Easy process to scan sheets with OCR.
  • Very affordable in the long run.
The user interface can be overwhelming and is somewhat dry.
Most of them require subscriptions that annually cost about the same as a single license of Power PDF. One of them had also had a major data breach recently I believe.
I don't really know how helpful the support is, since I've never really needed to reach out for anything other than to upgrade after being absorbed by Kofax.

Appropriate: Colleague who already uses Microsoft Office heavily, does not mind light self-help when troubleshooting issues
Not Appropriate: Mac users, or anyone who is not technologically savvy. Probably not for someone whose job involves heavy collaboration in real-time with others on a single project.
