Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp

We use Mailchimp for about half of our clients' email marketing campaigns. We collect email addresses on their website, send out monthly newsletters, create basic landing pages, and basic email workflows for lead nurturing.
  • Easy, user-friendly content builder for creating mobile-friendly emails
  • Useful content builder for creating landing pages
  • Forwarding emails from website email capture directly to specific lists
  • I wish there was more customization / features for individual contacts -- so I could watch how they've engaged with email over time.
  • For our clients that rely on contact form submissions, everything we can do to drive a lead to reach out has a direct impact on the client's revenue. I'd strongly recommend Mailchimp for newer businesses that want to experiment with email marketing and lead generation.
Mailchimp is the most affordable option by far. In fact, the free version is more than acceptable for most of our clients' needs. We use more sophisticated tools for our own internal marketing.
Mailchimp is perfect for businesses just starting out, as the free features are enough to sustain most basic email marketing -- website capture, newsletters, and very basic landing pages collecting forms.

Evaluating Mailchimp and Competitors

Yes - While other marketing tools like Sharpspring and Ontraport where great fits in some cases, and we continue to use them for more complex sequences that support entire educational programs. But truly, the reason we are able to pitch and sell email marketing for our small business clients for the first time ever is the software is free.
  • Price
Because they can start the software at the free level, it's easier to get them on board. They simply pay us for our expertise and the execution. If their list or needs grow past the free level, the client is usually in a much more comfortable place about paying for the tool because of how much engagement he has seen. From there, the paid level of Mailchimp expands and supports the growing needs to a much farther place.
For clients that already understand the value of email marketing, it may make sense to start them with a paid plan right away. This is especially important if they have a significant (near-the-limit) list as it is.
