Overall Satisfaction with Mailchimp

Mailchimp is a staple in our publishing business. We use landing pages and pop-ups to collect customer data, who sign up to our mailing list to receive industry updates and the latest news. As a publishing business, a large chunk of our profits come from sponsorships and advertising. Growing our email database is a fantastic way for us to sponsor relevant adverts to high-interest customers. We implement this across our social media and website, which we find Mailchimp integrates with just about every platform we have come across.
  • Integrates with most other platforms
  • Had advanced data entry fields for collection of additional information
  • Easy-to-use drag-and-drop builder
  • The drag-and-drop builder can be a bit basic - some of the customizations could be improved
  • The free plan is used to send automated welcome emails, now this is not a feature unless you upgrade
  • It's very similar to a lot of other email marketing systems out there - for the price you pay, it would be nice to see Mailchimp offer something more advanced
  • Mailchimp has allowed us to reach a more targeted audience, making it better value for money from our sponsor's viewpoint as we can really narrow down who is seeing their content, resulting in much better click-through rates
  • It allows us to promote our in-house products to customers who have specifically set their interests
  • It is very expensive for the amount of contacts we have so we have to make sure we run the business to cover this very large expense
Brevo - I have found to be a better all-rounder. The customization to the emails seems more advanced, being able to edit the mobile and desktop view individually. You also pay for emails sent, rather than the number of contacts. I find Mailchimp has better deliverability than Brevo. MailerLite is really good for the free version as it offers simple automations for free - which is useful when first building your list. Mailchimp you must purchase a mid-range plan to start with automations.
It is quite straightforward to use. I have been using it for 10ish years, and I sometimes find it annoying when there are updates and they move menu items around and it takes me longer to find specific settings again. Also, the API section is in a bit of a weird location which made it hard to find after a particular update. The drag-and-drop email builder is really easy and straightforward to use. List management and segmentation are nice.
Having a small team here who help manage the marketing as a whole, it's been great to have everything we need in terms of email marketing under one roof. It means the team can efficiently work on a project and not have to switch between programs. The fact it integrates with most of the other platforms that we use has made the whole process really streamlined and improved workflow tenfold.
We have learned that deliverability is key - we used the internal Salesforce email marketing system for a while and discovered that this has many issues as well as being quite complicated to set up. Sometimes, simpler is better when it comes to marketing emails, and the reports have really helped our business to see trends in our designs and show what is best performing.

Do you think Mailchimp delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Mailchimp's feature set?

Yes

Did Mailchimp live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Mailchimp go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Mailchimp again?

Yes

Mailchimp's deliverability is really good and the analytics you get are really useful. The price point makes it hard to choose Mailchimp over some of the other email marketing platforms which seem to have better design customization options. I never had an issue integrating Mailchimp with any of the programs or platforms we use as a business. I would like to have SMS options as most others do now. As a publication business, we are very design-led. Mailchimp has very limited fonts to use compared to others.

The reporting has been amazing and the re-marketing features have been essential to our business. It's definitely got all the features you would want when connecting your e-commerce store. You can also collect information at checkout thus growing your list at a much higher rate than normal pop-ups. Automated emails are very good at converting new and existing customers.
Segmentation has been great - as it means we can target specific groups of people from new customers, returning customers, regions, lifetime value, and more. We also work with a lot of influencers so it's great to be able to segment these away from our main customer base so they all receive relevant emails, which has helped us to achieve a much higher conversion rate.
