Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)

We use the different products in the Microsoft 365 [(formerly Office 365)] suite for basic word processing, data reporting, simple statistical analysis, and personal project tracking. It helps us address business problems such as managing time spent and tracking progress on smaller tasks for individuals where progress on these tasks don't need to be tracked by team members.
  • Useful for quickly examining numbers generated in statistical reports and apps
  • Excel helps provide a powerful tool for writing formulas to examine relationships amongst variables in a dataset
  • Word allows for a quick, easy way to complete basic word processing tasks
  • Extremely easy software installation and user management
  • Some applications are relatively bulky, where a light text editor may often do the trick
  • Unfortunately full license is required on every machine, where some machines may only require Excel and others may only require Word, but not enough licenses are held by the company
  • Implementing a built-in Python scripting tool with Excel could be useful as most people want to incorporate custom code
  • Easy software installation
  • User management across the organization
  • Quick data analysis
  • Simple word editing features
  • It has had a positive impact on reducing user frustration, where some individuals don't have the tech skills to use more advanced pieces of software - everyone can easily get the job done with the basic apps in Microsoft 365
  • It had a positive impact on increasing employee efficiency so people can quickly finish small tasks like editing word documents much more easily than by uploading documents to Google Docs and editing them from there (i.e. fewer steps need to be taken since you don't have to upload docs to complete simple tasks)
  • It had a negative impact on cost - we want to use just a single app on almost all machines, but had to buy the packaged licenses
Notepad++ is a great, lightweight editor that doesn't have a same advanced features as Word, but has a very nice feel and can be better for simple text editing. Libre Office has roughly the same features as Microsoft 365, but the usability and intuitiveness is lacking. Microsoft 365 overall provides a more refined package with all of the features you need and then some!

LibreOffice, Notepad++, Google Workspace (formerly G Suite)
It's excellent for working on documents individually, quickly analyzing data with formulas, and tracking individual projects where team members don't need to see your progress in spreadsheet or written list. It's less suited for collaborating with team members on a Word or Excel document simultaneously, as Google Docs has become the most commonly used app for this purpose. Also, Excel is less appropriate for writing extensive or complicated analysis formulas - VSCode is better for simple code used to analyze data.
