Overall Satisfaction with Paylocity

We use Paylocity as our HR and payroll systems. We implemented Paylocity in January of 2023 after using Banner for approximately 20 years. We use the following modules: Recruiting, Benefits, and Performance. One of the advantages to Paylocity over Banner is the web-based nature of the system and its simpler user interface.
  • Easy to use- very intuitive
  • Time and Labor- very disappointed in the time off accruals for vacation and sick time. We have had major problems since implementation and still track manually because we don't trust the system. Many of the features we expected to see were not in place despite a lengthy and thorough implementation process.
  • Workflows- this is probably my biggest area of disappointment. I was so looking forward to this functionality, and it just does not work as expected. It is way too limited.
  • Improved efficiency in HR department
  • More consistent processes
  • Better data-driven decision making based on easily accessible information
Paylocity has definitely improved automated processes, but we still have a ways to go to really get Paylocity working for us to its potential. There are several things that need to work better- time off accruals and workflows, specifically. There is too much manual work involved with these processes at this point.
Our employees have not engaged in the Community and Impressions as much as I would like to see. I am hoping that in our second year with Paylocity, employees will become more engaged. We have used the new hire survey and received good participation and valuable feedback, so I'm hoping that sets the stage for newer employees to be engaged.
We selected Paylocity primarily because of the cost and capabilities. All of our options had very similar features. One of our most important items for selection was customer service. Our implemenation team was fantastic, but we didn't have the greatest customer service after that. Since requesting a new customer service rep, our experience has been better.

Would you buy Paylocity again?

Yes

It is definitely an improvement over our previous system (Banner). The integration with Banner, that we still use for finance, has not been as smooth as I would have like to see. I like the system for HR and payroll, which are our primary uses. We have had some issues with Time and Labor, primarily with time off accruals, which is disappointing. I like the Recruiting function, as do most of the hiring managers. I wish there was a way to do annual letters of appointment for faculty without having to do a job posting and individual letters, but we made it work this year, and I really appreciate the electronic signatures as well as the letters going automatically to the employee file. The Benefits module worked really well for us and helped greatly increase compliance with the open enrollment deadline- this helped us be more efficient in HR at a time when we really needed it. We have not been able to use the Performance module to the extent that is needed, but it seems fairly simple so far, and I look forward to fully implementing it yet this fiscal year.
