Overall Satisfaction with Procore

Procore provides a single source of truth for project information. We are able to coordinate all data through Procore. We upload drawings, submittals, and forms. We create RFIs, Change Orders, Prime Contracts, Commitments, and Invoices through Procore. We also utilize an ERP connection with our accounting software to ensure financial data is updated automatically. Procore does have powerful tools, but the true power lies in the single solution. Many robust tools are available through different vendors, but Procore provides this functionality in a single comprehensive solution.

The biggest benefit to Procore is providing my team with a single place to view information to answer any question they might have about a project.
  • Submittal Workflow
  • RFI ease of use
  • Drawings (no symbol library) (no copy and paste for markups) (markups skew from iOS to Web)
  • Detailed Financial Reporting (can't create an invoice aging report)
  • Saved time locating information
  • Managed Liability with clear Punch Lists and Workflow accountability
Sage 100C.
The integration allows most of our financial information to flow into Procore and update our budget as costs are incurred. We have also integrated Procore Time Tracking solution so that the payroll process is expedited.

Invoices and Purchase Orders don't integrate well and these items still require manual entry into Sage.
Daily logs are great in Procore. When you utilize the time tracking solution and daily logs, all time automatically gets imported to the daily log. There are separate modules in the daily log that can be switched on or off depending on the level of detail required. The daily log can be exported to a very presentable PDF for hard copy filing.

Daily log data input is quick and painless and has reduced the time required for data entry while at the same time allowing for more detailed and informative document.
PlanGrid was a drawings solution that tried to become more of a project management solution. The drawings markups on PlanGrid were good, but the project management tools were lackluster.

Procore has more tools and they function much better than PlanGrid (except for the drawing markups). Procore organizes and displays drawing sheets better than PlanGrid. The only characteristic PlanGrid excels over Procore is the drawing markups.
Procore is attempting to be an attractive solution to GCs, Owners, and Specialty Contractors. It has tools that address many of the specific needs for each type of company.

The financials are designed to incorporate a total contract value budget and those that cost budget may need to adjust their budgeting to utilize Procore's financial tools. This is most visible during the change order process.

Field productivity and time tracking works pretty well for those that self-perform and need a time-tracking solution. This tool is not nearly as robust as some of the stand alone solutions, but again, it is part of Procore's single solution. The time reporting feature can be coerced into producing a printable weekly "timecard", but there is no way to get the individuals signature to accompany that timecard without dramatically increasing the physical print out size of the timecard. Individuals can electronically sign their timecards on their own smartphones.

The submittal tool workflow is by far my favorite. The tool tracks a step by step flow of accountability that is very clear and easy to customize.

RFIs are easy to use and an email reply will be automatically uploaded as an RFI response.

The drawings tool needs work.

Procore has become integral to our business. There are no comprehensive solutions that could step in and fill the role. We have invested a significant amount of time fleshing out our Procore database. If we did not renew, that time investment would be lost. We have not identified a viable solution to the challenges Procore solves. Procore is dedicated to continually supporting Procore. We have invested in Procore as it is today and also what it is likely to become in the future.

Evaluating Procore and Competitors

Yes - Plangrid.

Plangrid was a good drawings tool, but the project management tools left a lot to be desired. Procore also had many tools and collaborative features that Plangrid did not have.

Procore's price model makes it a more expensive solution. Procore has no limit on "seats" or users. Once you purchase a Procore account you can allow access to as many users as you need. This is a big difference from many of Procore's competitors that utilize a per "seat" price model.

The Procore user interface is intuitive and requires only a short time to begin understanding where important options will be.

Procore is a fleshed out Project Management solution. It has improved significantly since we first purchased an account. Updates are made at a regular pace and have brought needed improvements. Procore is very good about communicating their planned improvements and provides update webinars to keep you in the know.
We evaluated Procore thoroughly. We had also used Procore through client accounts. Procore provides a great deal of information and statistics about their product. There is most certainly enough information available that we did not have to hunt for it. Once we contacted Procore for a sales follow up they were very forthcoming about pricing.

Procore Implementation

Iron out your cost code list in your accounting software before you link with Procore. Once the link is established that list is more or less permanent.

Review the permission matrix carefully. It controls so much. You want to ensure the information provided to your users adequate but you also want to protect your sensitive data.

Procore Financials are organized in a total contract value style. Any markup or Profit will need to be sent somewhere on your budget. This may be significantly different than the Cost budgeting that many contractors do.
Yes - We began with the Field Productivity and Drawings tools.

This required that all the necessary projects to be imported from Sage 100C and then drawings uploaded. The repetitive nature of this process created a learning opportunity that solidified our SOP.

Once drawings and projects were ready we sent out an email informing all personnel of the adoption of Procore and the requirements for usage. Procore was being used by Lead field personnel at this point (2 months). Time tracking functions and drawing reference was being conducted through Procore.

I contacted Procore customer success for usage statistics and provided usage statistics to the company in a monthly Procore Progress email.

Next we began fleshing out the Project Databases by manually importing RFIs and Submittals. Financials came next along with Change Orders and Contracts. Historical time entry was also part of this process to ensure our labor budget to actual reports were accurate.

As the Projects became more fleshed out we instituted further mandates for Procore Usage(4 months).

After about 6 months the field team and office staff were comfortable with the use of many of the essential Procore tools.

Field personnel are becoming more and more comfortable with Procore and I have begun including the benefits of some of the collaborative features of Procore in the monthly Progress emails.

Change management was a minor issue with the implementation - The logistics of training was a challenge. Procore provides online training, but we also wanted some in-person training sessions. This included bringing personnel into the office as well as field visits.

We had to alter some of our practices regarding the storage and transmission of certain items. Workflows changed slightly, but Procore provides a flexible reinforcement for the construction process.

Procore is designed for construction so the processes are logical and familiar with only slight variation.

Procore Support

Procore does have a feedback forum where you can suggest new or modified functionality. They also have support chat that you can utilize to get immediate responses.

The feedback forum is great, but sometimes it feels like the development is slow or stalled on suggestions.

The chat function is pretty good and the reps are knowledgeable. If they are unable to answer my question they follow-up through email very quickly. I am very satisfied with Procore's support.

As a Procore customer you are also assigned to a Procore Customer Success team. I haven't had to reach out to them very much, but if I need to escalate an issue they are always available.

I don't give support a 10 because of the slow or ambiguous responses I have received through the feedback forum.

Procore also provides a "community" forum where you can reach out to other users to answer any questions you might have.
ProsCons
Quick Resolution
Good followup
Knowledgeable team
Problems get solved
Kept well informed
No escalation required

No - Procore support is fantastic. I have not felt as though premium support was a necessary expenditure. Procore's premium support is also a more focused support path in which they provide additional setup support. We did not purchase additional setup support and never felt as if we needed it. We did have an in-house individual fully dedicated to the setup of Procore (me).
Yes - Many issues have been resolved in a timely manner. Other more complicated issues have been marked for future development. Overall I am happy with issue reporting and have seen enough issues get resolved that I am confident that my pending issues will be resolved at a future date.

Procore conveys a dedication to their product that inspires confidence in its future development.
It would be easier to count how many times I have not received stellar support from Procore, which I would say stand at less than five times. I am impressed by Procore's support so often. They respond to chat requests immediately, they respond with insightful and comprehensive information. The more challenging requests have been forwarded directly to specialists and I have been able to chat with them.

Using Procore

Intuitive and logical. The app is easy to navigate and doesn't utilize an overly complex menu system. I wish the drawing markups tool was more robust since it is the primary tool for the field.

Yes - The iOS app is very good. There is some limited functionality. Some functions must be conducted through the Web interface. Reporting is exclusively conducted through the Web interface.

The iOS interface is intuitive and easy to navigate.

Information doesn't always update automatically on the iOS app. The app will require "refreshing" in multiple areas to ensure data is fully up-to-date. This can become a problem when small changes are made on the web to be utilized in the field. One of the first steps I ask my field personnel to complete is a "project refresh". Swiping down and holding on several different screens on the iOS app usually accomplishes the necessary refresh.
