Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise

Enter new customers, invoices, and payments. Enter Subcontractor invoices. Pull Job Costing reports. The function of the program itself is user-friendly and works well for our needs. Keeping track of invoices, customer balances and customer contact information is made much easier by QB Enterprise. The notes tab within the customer window is also very handy for special circumstances regarding a specific customer. It allows us to read whatever circumstance we need to know about a customer before they are contacted (customer lies about sending payments, customer had problems with our work, customer's car was damaged during our work at their home, don't talk to the husband - only talk to the wife, etc.).
  • Allows for extra notes on customers.
  • Tracking customer invoices and due dates is easy.
  • Simple to pull Job Costing reports.
  • Invoice numbers are automatically generated and when an error happens, it's difficult to back track and get the invoice numbers populating correctly.
  • Updates are a HUGE problem - they are forced on users at different times and cause every user to stop using QB while the problem is being fixed.
  • It has taken about 2 hours on the phone with customer service every time we have an issue with just ONE user's update. This has happened twice in the last 17 days.
  • Easily and quickly pulling up a customer when a phone call is received allows us to find the corresponding physical file 80%-90% faster than looking for the file without checking QB first.
  • Listing credit card processing charges (under the proper code) on the invoice has allowed us to streamline our final profit calculations.
  • The update problems have caused major frustration throughout our users and casts a slight shadow on the program as they put a halt on our inner office productivity until the updates are fixed.
Our company has stayed approximately the same size for the last 7 or so years. However, if our company was to grow exponentially, I have no doubt QB would still be just as functionable and useful as it has been for the last 7 years.
The setup was a hassle. Installing the new program (and removing the old program) took a very long time and we had some issues with firewalls and our server that had to be resolved before we could get back to using QB. It took a combination of our tech support and QB customer service working together to get Enterprise up and working properly. (Over 2 days of work.) Thankfully, there was little to no training needed. The operation of the program is very similar to the previous version. A few buttons were in different spots, there were more options for certain functions but the design is such that most of the new functions were intuitive.
There has been no unexpected benefit. The program functions as we feel it should and allows us to perform the tracking and accounting functions we expected.
The previous version of QuickBooks we used doesn't seem to be listed here. The only negative thing about Enterprise is the pesky updates. They really do slow us down and take quite a while to fix when there is a problem. Hopefully, they will get the updates fixed sooner rather than later. Our tech support said many many companies are having even more problems than we do regarding the updates.

The biggest problems we've had so far are regarding updates. The updates don't always go through properly. And if one person's computer has a different version of the update (which happens often because QB forces you to update after a certain point) then it will sometimes lock another user out and give an error message saying someone needs to switch to multi-user mode. However, everyone is already in multi-user mode. So it's a problem within the program updates itself. Each time this happens we usually spend around 2 hours on the phone with customer service going back and forth between each computer system/QB user, running updates, checking the version of the update, restarting computers and QB over and over until the updates finally take. It is infuriating because our entire office cannot use QB during the time things are being fixed. So if your business could not function without QB for an hour or two during a work day to fix issues with updates, this version is going to cause you some serious problems.
