I think it all depends on what the client is looking for. I mean we have been using Vantage for the last 6 years and it has come a long way from where it started. The nice thing is we have been able to grow with it and configure things to how we need them to be for our business. So each business needs are going to be different and ADP Vantage can keep up with those needs.

Kronos Workforce Central is well-suited for large organizations seeking a simplified time-recording system or are trying to get away from manual timesheets being submitted. Larger organizations would see a greater return on investment while using this system. It is less appropriate for smaller organizations with fewer employees, as the cost of the system likely would be greater than the investment of the system.

  • ADP Vantage HCM is nicely laid out so it is user friendly. It gives you the look and feel of what other popular apps might look like so there is a familiarity there.
  • ADP Vantage HCM being a one stop shop, makes it nice to only have to keep track of one log in and I have all of the information I need at my fingertips.
  • ADP Vantage HCM is always evolving and while at times this can be a challenge I find it to be a strength that they are always trying to improve the product.

  • I personally feel like timekeeping is very well thought out and has some powerful tools built in. There is a bit of a learning curve but with strategically placed SMEs we were able to get the use and functionality we needed out of the system.
  • Workforce planning has been crucial in planning operational support in our retail and customer service centers. It is also editable and modifiable as needed.

Cons

ADP Vantage HCM

  • We just upgraded to Vantage Time Version 8. While we are glad that we do not have to worry about Java any more the look and feel is a little lack luster. The screen is boring and it can be hard to locate what you are looking for because nothing really stands out.
  • Since upgrading to Vantage Time Version 8 things have been moved around that we were not expecting so I think it would have been helpful to have that laid out during the implementation process.
  • The other item that I have personally had issues with is Employee Documents. This has given errors across our company so at any given moment you do not have access to obtain an EE's documents. This needs improvement.

  • Without proper implementation and guidelines around accountability Kronos can become a burden just like any other misused system. With that said, there are managers who manage near 50 people in our organization and if employees don’t manage/update their time cards a manager will be overwhelmed to keep it accurate for them. When it comes to floating hours and tying it to new locations or cost centers via pay codes it can be a challenge to correct mismanaged time cards.
  • One complaint is that that timecards don’t always update in live time when approving or adjusting hours or time off. When in a crunch to approve timecards prior to payroll being run it can be a little intimidating to submit a timecard that doesn’t represent a full-week of work although you entered or approved the correct hours. Speed and processing of the system lags, so can cause frustration.
  • More automation around requests and approvals would be beneficial to high volume managers. Having to manually approve each request or change can be very time consuming for leaders who must log into the system to do so. Automation around holiday or sick time requests would be nice and would provide some relief to teams. Additionally, creating features to approve such requests visa email link or similar would save the time of having to log into the application.

I am personally not a huge fan of Kronos Workforce Central. It crashes on me too often, and it runs slowly. It is not a quick program to use at all. Once it actually starts working, it is simple to use, but it is not one that you can use if you need information promptly.

Having no experience with Kronos prior to using it in March 2016, their customer service team taught me how to use it the right way after my initial training at work. I am well-versed in data analysis using Excel and Access primarily, so once I discovered that Kronos had a reporting feature built in, I've used the feature quite a few times to help our properties evaluate their production costs and make good labor decisions. I give Kronos a 10 because once a person takes the time to learn how to use the software, they'll realize that Kronos is far more effective than most, and gives users more ways to access their information where and when they want to.

A lot of set ups vary from company to company so parts of our training we found it difficult to relate it to our processes. They have TONS of training modules available and a streamlined process for what you should complete and when. Would have been helpful to have onsite training for how much one pays for the system.

Other than Kronos, I've only used Oracle PeopleSoft HCM for time and attendance. In comparing the two, I find that Kronos is far more high-end and busy and complicated, whereas PeopleSoft is simpler and to the point. With Kronos, there is some refining to do to it to get the time tracking tools to appear simpler, but once you customize it to your needs, it works real well. Again, the key to ensuring that the suite works well for you is to spend time with your Kronos representative who will scale the software to work as you intend it to
