Likelihood to Recommend

Cvent Event Diagramming (Formerly Social Tables)

Cvent is used by most of the employers I have worked for in the incentive industry. Cvent allows us to do the research, planning, and then implement the program both front and back sides all in one place, so I would easily recommend Cvent to others in my industry who do not use Cvent already.

Miro

Miro is a great tool for getting your thoughts organized and also for working through such a process with a team. However it can seem a bit chaotic at first and so it is important to lay some ground rules and explain a bit the process and how the board could evolve so that people who are new to mind-mapping aren't too surprised. In a workshop setting, it is also helpful to split up the tasks of note-taking/card-writing and moderation -- very difficult for one person to do both. Another very important element to plan for is some time at the time to debrief the team on what was discussed and what the next steps would be -- again to mitigate the potential perception of chaos and futility of the exercise!

Pros

Cvent Event Diagramming (Formerly Social Tables)

  • User-friendly. It's easy for us to train other team members/staff/volunteers to use the front-end system for registration and event check-in.
  • Social Tables is great for creating custom room layouts and diagrams.
  • Social tables is customizable. We're able to capture specific information for attendees, and can "tag" them when additional info is needed.

Miro

  • It allows for an innovative way to connect ideas from different stakeholders in a diagramming session.
  • It enables the same level of discussions to occur in an online space as in a physical space.
  • It provides the perfect environment for a storm raining session with the team.

Cons

Cvent Event Diagramming (Formerly Social Tables)

  • A development that would be useful would be the ability to reorder the diagrams to a custom order in one event so that when exported as one document, they are in an order that can be customized to flow well for the meeting planner.

  • Cards need development - I regularly use the cards for process flows so I can have options in a quick click location (SUPER useful), however, the limitations in values is a major problem, also, if I could just define a list easily up front and then use dropdowns or something similar for each type of value it'd be way better (e.g. choose from a list of systems, a list of teams, etc.).
  • Export to Visio - is not supported, but required by clients. Not having this *almost* negates the value of having Miro since I need to do time-wasting rework.
  • Can't paste tables from Excel - this is a major pain as I like to bring over certain resources or supporting data below my process flows. If I could paste in a table it'd be effortless (ideally I could then paste from Miro back to another medium as well in case if I need to communicate the figures or store elsewhere); as a workaround, I paste screenshots/images, but these have drawbacks as I can't just easily edit something previously uploaded (and could have been weeks/months prior so I don't have the source data or screenshot handy).

Although I am not in the position to make this decision I'd encourage my managers to renew as the product makes our day to day tasks easier and more fun.

Use of symbols in the UI may not reflect the intended action and requires users to hover to see a tooltip to determine the exact action. If users only use Miro periodically, this means they have to repeat this action each time when creating a board. It would be better to allow users to choose between seeing symbols, text, or a combination of both - especially for accessibility.

The support was exceptional, and they remained an arm's reach away for when we ran into any questions after we began using the tool. Overall, we experienced phenomenal customer service. We also had more than one web-based call where their team would walk us through examples and answer any questions we had.

I have not yet had to engage support live. I have found every answer I needed by tapping the extensive knowledge base. I think they are taking the right approach in allowing me to self serve when I need some info. I will update my review if and when I need to tap a live representative.

I think there is a lot of detail on the interface. In some ways maybe too much. This is common for a powerful and detailed product, but perhaps there could be some stripped-back interfaces that are a little more "novice" friendly. Other color schemes or visual schemes might be nice, too.

Alternatives Considered

Cvent Event Diagramming (Formerly Social Tables)

Cvent Social Tables is easier to use and has second to none customer service. Overall, we found that social tables provides a more lifelike, realistic depiction of the space, which is key when organizing massive show floors. It is also easier to show why certain booths are priced higher/lower than others due to where they are in the space.

I personally prefer use of Miro to Trello, although Trello is easier to sort out access controls for, which may not necessarily be a Miro issue however. We use Azure DevOps extensively for development but have also used it for PI planning and team retros. Whilst the Deliver Plans view in Azure DevOps is useful, it is much more limited than using Miro for PI planning as dependencies are much harder to visually map. I also prefer using Miro for retrospectives, as Miro is more interactive and cards can be grouped and linked in more creative ways.

Return on Investment

Cvent Event Diagramming (Formerly Social Tables)

  • This program allows us to be nimble in our communication with our vendors and clients.
  • This program has empowered my new staff members to solve problems discreetly and on their own, prior to bringing them to my attention. It is a key tool to our success.

  • Retros can now be preformed digitally completely, and in less than one hour you can come up with at least 5 action points based on the retro exercise!
  • Interviewing of new candidates is a super smooth process! Because of the smooth tools it is super easy for me to conduct an interview that requires drawing on a whiteboard! You have post its, super easy to connect boxes and move them around! This smooth experience makes it nicer for the candidate as well which boosts their confidence and results in a better interview!
  • Our groomings are super efficient! In just 2 hours we can manage to draw at least 3 system designs and discuss them properly.
