Overall Satisfaction with Appian

[It's] Used for basic business user driven workflow development. It is used across departments and allows for a controlled non-email dependent application to facilitate decision making in situations that require multiple units to provide agreement or sign off.
  • Basic communications that require relatively straightforward decisions.
  • Non-developer intensive workflow development.
  • It is quite rigid and if the use cases are not well thought out it could lead to a huge amount of redevelopment.
  • Without developer skill sets, end users are not able to construct comparable workflow solutions through the end user designer mode.
  • Application licensing.
  • ROI is relatively flat for my purposes but it does improve the timing and delivery along with ensuring all vested parties are aware of the status of the workflow.
  • A case can be made that it offers the potential to save on IT and development costs but, when you analyze the broader picture, the business users are replacing the developers so the cost so it tends to net out as a wash.
Appian's broad governmental usage stood out when initially comparing to less known workflow solution tools, at this point I would not even be able to specifically recall the strengths and weaknesses of similar tools.
Please review the posted pros and cons as that will stipulate the scenario for each.
