Overall Satisfaction with Chrome River EXPENSE

For the first several months, Chrome River EXPENSE was used by a select group of employees. In the last couple of months, we have expanded the usage across the rest of the company. The business problems addressed by Chrome River EXPENSE are tracking all expenses and automatically categorizing them.
  • Easy to customize
  • Gives power to the end-users to make common changes
  • Easy to understand layout
  • The design face is a little chaotic.
  • It is difficult to incorporate inter-company accounts (across different sister entities).
  • A couple of times, support misinterpreted instructions (for changes).
  • Better tracking of all expenses
  • Forced approvals for expenses
  • Variance analysis data to compare to forecasted amounts
Chrome River EXPENSE is easy to understand and most of the users have learned it fairly quickly. Reporting out of Chrome River is also pretty straightforward and the report designer is very robust. The category names (within Chrome River) are a little confusing. Receipt scanning through one's cellphone is a good feature. Management has adequate visibility to all the expenses, and thus managers are able to budget more accurately.
Chrome River EXPENSE was the best overall deal. Concur's system was more robust, but it was also much more expensive and as good of a value. Expensify's system was not as clean and easy to navigate as Chrome River's system. Also, the Chrome River presentation was very well put together, as it highlighted solutions for all of the issues that we were experiencing.
We have had a few hiccups during our design runs, with the Chrome River IT personnel misinterpreting some of our instructions. Also, sometimes it was unclear whether the requested changes have been completed by Chrome River or not. A few times, we had to retest a particular area because Chrome River IT has not yet finished the requested changes. Other than that, Chrome River support has been fairly responsive.
Chrome River is best suited for companies that have one or a few entities, especially with numerous transactions. It handles a large number of transactions very well. There are some issues with intercompany transactions (one entity paying expenses on behalf of another entity). We had to come up with some workaround solutions for intercompany transactions.
