Overall Satisfaction with HipChat
We use hipchat as an internal chat system. It's used primarily by the Cloud Services department, but people that use our internal products also have access to support rooms where they can ask questions.
Pros
- Hipchat has good support for message searching to allow you to go back through history and find important comments or copy/pasted things.
- Room creation, deletion, administration, and the general usability of Hipchat are all very solid.
- The added emoji features are a ton of fun.
Cons
- The online webapp is not as good as it probably should be.
- Hipchat is surprisingly expensive for a large team.
- Hipchat integration with other services is lacking compared to Slack.

Evaluating HipChat and Competitors
Yes - We replaced Lync with it. We still use Lync for interacting with some other departments, but internally we only use Hipchat because it is way better than Lync and has support for things engineers do.
- Price
- Product Features
- Existing Relationship with the Vendor
Plain and simple, the free version of hipchat was selected because it was free.
I would probably try to experiment a little more before making a decision, rather than simply reading reviews.

Yes - Very well. No complaints about any features, though I would not consider the mobile version the ideal version simply because it's the mobile version.
