Overall Satisfaction with Linode
I use a single Linode instance to host three different virtual hosts running decades-old operating systems (Multics and ITS). I also host multiple web sites a few static, one wordpress, one media wiki, and one trac. The site hosts time sharing systems as well as web sites for use by arbitrary people on the Internet. I am the current maintainer of releases for the Multics operating system, as well as an active developer on Multics and ITS.
- Easy to set up VMs
- Great technical support
- Costs are very reasonable
- Other managed services -- that I don't use, but appreciate having available
- Should be able to support multiple EXTERNAL IP addresses per Linode
- Should be able to provide cheaper backup solutions
- I make no revenue from my use of Linode (just a cost!)
- AWS Auto Scaling, AWS CloudFormation, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, AWS Identity & Access Management and AWS Key Management Service
I've only used bare-bones "create a VM and run it" and not delved into any of the other functionality.
As I mentioned before, my use of Linode does not result in any revenue -- I do it for fun and others for free. So although it costs me money to run, the price is good, and it is worth it. I don't charge for any use of my systems.
One of the operating systems I host (Multics time sharing system) is being actively used by others for software (new release) development. I would not want to lose any of the storage and would prefer no downtime. So far I've not been disappointed.
